Hi people,

Thought I'd drop by!

I Bought my first BRM a couple of weeks' ago. Had to travel to Yorkshire from South Devon to buy it though! It's in pretty good shape, with a tiny bit of bubbling to the usual places like the boot lock & hinges, and some on one side indicator! On a positive note the sunroof is perfect, with no leaks! The car is totally standard, it even has the original Rover radio/cassette with "in-clock" display and all the digits still work!! Sadly the car had no air-con though...

The worst bits are the wheels. They're not in too bad a condition, no kerbing, but the paint underneath the lacquer has crazed somewhat!! It's quite strange really, as the lacquer is still smooth to the touch!! :hmmm: A refurb at some point in the future methinks!

It came with a full service history, all previous MOTs, a folder of documentation/receipts, the original sales brochure and the user manual!

The best bit was the genuine 53k mileage, along with twelve (thirteen, actually!) months MOT (with no advisories!) and six months TAX.

Price? £1600 notes! That can't be bad, can it?

It drives lovely!

The heater control didn't work on speed one, but a quick scoot around eBay landed me with a resister repair kit for a fiver. Fitted this last weekend and now the heater speeds work like a charm.

However, to be safe I'm planning on getting the Cam belts done ASAP - it had them done at 21k (along with the HG!! :yikes:) but that was almost five years ago... I'm planning on taking it to Exeter Road Garage in Newton Abbot. Does anyone know about these people? They claim to have 20 years MG/Rover experience, and were once a Rover dealer/service centre. They say that they still have all the Rover tools and diagnostics equipment.

Next thing on the cards is a Janspeed cat-back system. I tried emailing Janspeed to get details of the exact pipe for my needs, but they didn't reply.

Can anyone tell me the correct system to buy? Also, does it come complete with all fixing items, like bolts and gaskets? Or do I need to buy these separately? Are they an easy DIY fit?

Anyway, I think I've typed enough now!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the site matey!

Glad your happy with your BRM. If you PM me the chassis number then I can tell you your build number.

I bought a full system from Janspeed but had to get the MG ZR 160 manifold, sports cat, interpipe and the Rover 200vi backbox. They had to re-weld one mounting bracket but apart from that it fits fine and dandy. They can supply all gaskets too if you ask nicely enough.

welcome m8, sounds like a nice example you got there and £1600 notes aint bad by anyones standards!!
I bought the 200Vi cat-back system from janspeeds online shop - was a straight fit took 1hr to get the old 1 off - (damn u seized bolts!!) - and 10mins to put the new 1 on. Came with all the gaskets and bits, top notch system m8!!!

Thanks for the welcome folks! :beer2:

I'm confused now! Adam: You say your exhaust needed some re-welding - was this needed to make it fit? I've PM'd you my VIN number too, thanks!

I'm after a cat-back system.

GmL_BrM: I've looked on the Janspeed site and found what I think you bought! However, there seems to be two places on the 'net. The first is janspeed.co.uk, but this site doesn't list the 200vi as an option on a cat-back system. The second is the janspeedshop.co.uk, which lists a system for the 200vi, which you can see if you click HERE (http://janspeedshop.co.uk/c5205_1048_1049_1074.htm), it's the first one of the two products listed. Is this the one you bought, GmL_BrM??

Cheers guys.

It was the exhaust hanger bracket on the interpipe. Because I bought the ZR system (bar the backbox) that particular bracket was in the wrong place, but Janspeed themselves removed and re-welded it.

p.s. I've not received a PM yet....

*edit, yes I have, ignore me :slap:

Blimey, you're too quick!! I've only just typed the PM!! :spank:

*Edit: Hahaha - got your ignore request... So you can skip the spanking then!

Ahh, I understand regarding the pipe now! Was there any particular reason to go with the ZR interpipe?

As I bought the ZR160 manifold and sports cat (you have to buy these together as the sports cat only fits the JS manifold, they also don't [or didn't, it was a few years ago] make a manifold for the 200vi), I got a good deal on the interpipe (keeps all the bores the same too).

You need the 200vi backbox though as the ZR one sticks out further from the bumper and looks odd.

I think I've got you now! You basically had a bespoke Janspeed system made then!

I'm not after anything quite as extreme... Or expensive!! A nice cat-back stainless system will suffice...

Searching the forum seems to rate Janspeed highly, but I don't want a system that's too loud. I had a Janspeed equipped Mini years ago, so I'm a little worried about the noise... Or was it a friend's "Peco" equipped Mini I'm remembering... It's all too long ago!!

Well it'll be quieter being just cat-back. Also consider the backbox, as I know for a fact that the oval is a lot louder than the twin from JS.

The system I'm looking at on the JS shop site (which I assume is the same system GmL_BrM fitted?!) has the twin, which I like the look of!!

Looking like it will soon be time to give the debit card a slap!! :yikes:

Yup, that's the one. Can get noisey on very long motorway journeys, but after having mine for about 3 years now I'd never change it!

Welcome!

I got my Janspeed cat-back system from 'Ricky Racing' who advertise on Ebay. It fitted perfectly (apart from my mechanic friend (I'd have done it myself but he's got a four poster ramp!) having to grind off and replace an existing stud on the cat as the nut wouldn't come off), and sounds lovely. Totally unobtrusive around town, but howls like a good 'un over 5k. And gives a bit more mid-range response over the standard fitment. Which was nice.:smile2:

Be sure to tell your insurers about the system if you fit it, have fun, and enjoy an excellent car!:):):):)
