Hi,
The back box on my BRM is blowing and i wanted to replace it with a genuine rover back box (i assume its the same one used on the 200 vi) but i cant seem to track down a supplier near me (Brighton). Kwik fit do janspeed ones but they are a little pricey and i want it to look and sound standard. Does anyone have any info or maybe some alternative which would do the job without turning my beloved BRM into a boyracer?

Thanks
Alex

You could try Rimmer Bros to get an original example 01522 563344

Although they don't list the 1.8 back box with the chrome finisher (you would have to specify this, otherwise you'll get a grotty normal jobby).

Thanks guys, i checked out rimmer bros and for about £50 extra i can get a janspeed one from kwik fit and since i havent got the tools to fit the exhaust myself i think i will just go do that. I just hope its not too loud!

If you go for a Janspeed twin, they are certainly quieter than the oval backboxes.

I spent years keeping that janspeed stuff off my car :D

Save some pennies and go custom, twin 3" is too big IMO. Also, have a good check to see if the backbox actually IS blowing. At the MOT is sounded like it was, but we couldn't find any evidence at any of the joins...

Original style are almost impossible to get hold of, Janspeed are louder than standard (and can be a bit much if you are used to standard), custom may be the way to go.

Haha ok Dom i think im gonna stay away from janspeed (mainly cos i just inquired at kwik fit and they wanted £290!). I was checking the car over and yes it definitely is blowing but the reason u couldnt find it was because it was right on the top of the back box, up against the heat sheild, i could stick my finger in the hole! No idea how that would have happened as its not any any welds or joins? Wats this about custom? that doesnt sound like it would save any pennies...? Otherwise i think i may try and get a standard one from rimmer bros.

what a bizarre and unusual place to go?! Sorry mate, we were focussing on the join as that's where the surface rust is!

I was quoted £370 for a custom cat back effort, twin 2.5" slashed (ala ZR160) from the cat back (keeping the right number of silencers, although thinking about it now I don't think there are any on the mid pipe).

I'm pretty sure the one that's on there at the moment is a normal rover effort with the chrome bit crimped on - rimmer bros is where I'd be going for that.

Alternatively, and probably cheaper, you get get a poor quality pattern part from www.online-automotive.co.uk...

With all that MOT though, you've got a year to decide!
