The prototype of the BRM had a small chin splitter and I decided to try and recreate a similar look with my car. I opted for a Seat Leon Cupra R splitter, from the mk1 version. It required some small modification but flows with the lines of the front very well.

To fit I found it easiest to get the car up on a ramp and take the front wheels off, however it can be done with the car just jacked up. Firstly the fixing lugs for the Leon need cutting off from the inside of the splitter, being lazy I used an angle grinder which whizzed through the plastic like a hot knife through butter. The two fins in the centre of the splitter also required grinding down slightly to allow it to fit flush onto the front.

It helps to have 2 people at this point to line the splitter up.

With the car raised on a ramp lining the splitter up is easier than being on the ground and the front wheels being off stops any fouling of the splitter on the wheels, as it is longer than the front bumper of the Leon. While one person holds it in place drill small pilot holes around the underside of the splitter into the front bumper. Self tapping screws will then be able to hold the splitter in place, I used approximately 12 as a bit of overkill.

Once the splitter is in place the ends need trimming (I used a hacksaw) to match the lines of the bumper, this requires cutting about 6” from the ends of the splitter. It is for this reason that I removed the front wheels, otherwise the ends will need to be trimmed for the lining up to take place and then trimmed again to get the shape just right.

The finished results can be seen below.

That's the puppy! Think they're about £1 cheaper than that from Seat direct but thats a good price.

Ok, cheers! Will get on it this weekend. Have to see how pricy the tangoing and corrosion repair is first!

I hate it with a passion! Only have 2 small spots, but needs to be addressed while I have money and before winter (which means now!!)
