Hi Folks,

Just to put my mind at ease, is the BRM cambelt tensioner the manually adjusted one, and if I remember correctly, is the tensioning spring supplied with the tensioner meant to be discarded after the tensioner is installed please?

I only ask as I removed the belt cover today to check for leaks and generally inspect stuff, and there was the remains of a snapped small spring dangling off the tensioner backplate.

The tensioner is held fine by the locking bolt on the backplate, and the belt tension feels spot on.

I'm wondering whether the tensioning spring was left in place by mistake when it was changed last?

Cheers v much! :):)

Looks as though the spring has been forgotten. Remove what is left of the spring and check the belt carefully for any damage to the belt.
The spring is only fitted to tension the pulley, then when locked up remove the spring and put it in your toolbox for use next time as they dont always supply the spring with the new pulley.
As you say your pulley is locked up and tension is correct then that is correct.

That's excellent, thanks v much. No belt damage as the main body of the spring was wedged near the backplate, and the snapped off bit was left dangling, so I don't imagine it's ever made contact with the belt.

Cheers v much again and please accept a virtual pint. :):):)
