View Full Version : Rear Washer - not the usual

Hi All,
I had the usual lack of water from the rear wash/ wipe and was feeling pretty smug when I took off the rubber grommit and saw the pipe was severed. I fixed it properly with some aquarium filter pipe and a couple of plastic connectors but it hasn't made any difference - darn!
Now, I don't think water's actually getting to the tailgate area but having parked the car on a dry drive, it doesn't seem to be getting out anywhere else and dribbling to the floor either.
Is there a pump that can fail? Or if there's another break in the pipe (somewhere) would no water be drawn from the bottle because of the lack of a vacuum?
I'd be grateful if this sounds familiar to anyone or if you've got any pointers.

Otherwise, car is great and going fine.
Cheers, Nick

The jet housing has probably become blocked with debris. Pull off the tube where it connects to the wiper/jet motor on the tailgate and poke a needle or similar into the jet pipe to remove all the crap that's in there.

That's what was wrong with mine and it's worked perfectly ever since.

The pump is inside the filler tank for the washer wipe. The pipe to the rear comes from the tank inside the car on the drivers side then it runs across the car on the vertical section just in front of the rear seat, then it runs up on the passenger side and exits a cavity in the chassis and then up to the tailgate, from there it runs down to the washer inside the tailgate. There are a break in the line which is on the passenger side of the car, its a bit of a mission to find it. It means taking out most of the interior.
A good one is to blow the line with some compressed air sometimes that will clear it. I hope that was ok. Good luck

Wire in tailgate could be damaged ?.Pull back the rubber cover on the right hand side of the tailgate when open.

You can hear if the pump is working by having the bonnet up and turning on the washer.

Thanks all.

*Rova Motor - I can't here the pump at all, but then again I can't hear it for the fronts either and they work fine so I dunno if I've just got a really quiet pump! Are there two seperate ones?

*Gene - I checked the wires 'cause my H/R/W has now decided to pack in aargh! They all seem OK though. I had a theory that the pipe had split, dropped water onto a live HRW wire and shorted it, but the fuse hasn't blown either. Confused!

*Mole - Not looking forward to having to do that.
Anyone else had problems with the heated rear window?
Cheers, Nick

The rear washer pump is in the washer bottle at the front of the car.

I'm putting it down to the pump failing. In a very quiet moment this morning(!) I managed to hear the front pump working but the rear one is deffo silent.
I'll investigate again when it warms/ dries up a bit brrrrrrrrrrr.

HRW is a mystery though. I've had the hatch trim off and all the connections look OK. Given everything a good spray with WD40 but nothing doing... dunno what to try next.
