View Full Version : Induction Kits
An aftermarket induction kit can help to give the BRM a freer flowing airflow and coupled with a full sports exhaust system will help to unlock a few extra bhp from the engine.
I opted for a PiperX Viper, however there are many makes available with the ITG Maxogen probably being the best for the engine as it has a custom intake that does away with the standard plenum chamber.
The old airbox needs removing and detaching from the elbow to the manifold. I moved the battery to gain access to the 2 screws used to hold the airbox in place. The plastic airbox can then be detached from the plenum and removed.
The new induction kit needs to be reattached to the elbow and a suitable placement for the cold air feed is required. I routed mine to the standard plenum as this will be just as effective as any other placement and allows some road debris to still be deflected from the induction kit.
Here is the induction kit shown in place.

I bought my induction kit from Mike Satur

Have looked at these kits in the past but seemed a bit expensive. Did you notice any increased performance? Also, How does it sound?
Cheers,
Ben.
I put it on with the exhaust system so honestly couldn't give performance details for it alone. The sound is nice, a kind of sucky sucky noise :D

Anyone came across this kit before:

I've had one on a golf before. Well made, good stuff. No point on the BRM if you're going to leave the front open mind...
BMC is what I'll be going with when I decide I want one.

hi there!
Does any one know if anyone makes a performance exhaust manifold for the brm? ive seen one as a mgzr xpower part but im not sure if it would fit onto the earlier cat on a brm, as im told the cats on the mgzr's are different.
I think you'll have to get a full system... Pretty sure Janspeed is the only aftermarket manifold people, and that's the same ones as x-power?
Thats what I did, full Janspeed system from the ZR. Works like a dream :D

then the tailpipes stick out to much
any difference in performance??

any difference in performance??
Nope, because Janspeed used the VI backbox so they don't stick out ;)
Performance is fantastic, along with the sound of the system burbling I wouldn't ever change it back!

then it's not a full zr system ;)
so you notice performance gains with the sportcat and 4-2-1??
True true, lol
Definitely. It makes it harder to pass MOT's now but it running at least as fast as ZR160's now.

Dont know this one ,its very cheap and Iam a bit sceptical about how much these things do including the more expensive ones,I think the normal filter lets in enough air for our engines and would love to see someone do a dyno test with and without different throttle bodies, air filters, exhaust systems to see if there is a gain on the VVC engine without any internal work.
If I had that to spend I would probably fit a panel K&N filter
