The bay looks brilliant! I started swapping bolts over for stainless ones on mine, thought it would be rude not too when you've got a wall A4 stainless nuts and bolt available at work. Didnt ever get to far though.
You did? I must be going blind then. I shall have a closer look tomorrow! LOL. A4, very flash but I guess it makes sense bearing in mind what you do.

Just bought more wheels with some pirelli road legal slicks/track tyres.
Tyres may be up for sale as it was the wheels i'm after, not sure if i'll use them on the BRM or not yet, may go on the ZS Diesel that i'm leaning towards for the missus.
Or they might get painted orange and slapped on for the summer!!!

Just fed up of working on it now. MOT tomorrow so if my attitude towards it doesnt improve it'll be sold or thrown in someones garage.
I know the feeling Shaggy, mine all needs re-doing but i have some other plans for the interior now. Just need to get the wedding out of the way and I'll spend some doshola on the old girl :)

Well i'm back on the road!!
Sailed through the MOT
Now the first thing i have to do is sort the exhaust. It is waaaaay too loud for me now!! Age is playing its growing up games with me.
Got a list of things to do with it, things which i planned to do while it was off the road but which i couldnt be bothered to do.

06-06-2011, 10:33 PM
which exhaust do you have? i've just put my standard BRM backbox back on with the Janspeed manifold, sports cat and mid section and mine is far to quiet now! Didn't like the fact the janspeed backbox stuck out so much though :/
Shaggy
06-07-2011, 07:20 PM
I have a 2.25" Powerflow with Janspeed manifold.
Will prob just go see my mate who did it for me to have a bigger silencer put on, well i'll have a new rear section entirely, then at least i can flog this one!!
Will go see him tomorrow probably.
On a bad note, i've just spotted some slight rust on the rear arch passenger side, not happy but does push me more towards keeping it and doing a full on resto of the car. I cant moan too much as its in fantastic condition but i want perfection!!!! lol
Must crack on with painting my wheels too, then shod em with tyres and stick em on as i dont like the alpines much :(
Also after a new parcel shelf and interior trim, A B C pillars etc so i can customise em!
Chasing perfection, love it! Don't you just hate rust
Shaggy
06-07-2011, 07:31 PM
Me and rust have crossed paths before!!!
I won :)
But it costs :(
Jiggy Josh
06-07-2011, 10:19 PM
If you do decide to flog the exhaust how much would you be looking for? :P (im assuming you just mean the backbox part?)
I want something like you have... well fitting and with a bit of growl lol! The standard backbox i have on at the moment looks nice but is too quiet for me! :P I really ought to start a for sale thread.. i have two janspeed mid sections and two janspeed twins sat around in the barn now lol!
On a side note.. your car is inspirational :D
Shaggy
06-08-2011, 08:02 PM
Tell me more about these janspeeds??
Are they the Rover 200 fitment? Or MG ZR fitment?
Thanks for the compliment but if you saw the state it'll be in at the weekend then you'd retract that statement!!
Interior is gonna be hanging ooot!!
Jiggy Josh
06-08-2011, 10:37 PM
I'll have to have a double check as they are stored at a mates barn which is a bit of a way from my house BUT...
The first one i have includes the janspeed mid section and twin backbox which bolts on to the standard 200 cat (will have to check how many bolts the flange is)... and the 2nd one i have bolts onto the Janspeed sports cat and is a differnt flange (ZR fitment i think.. not sure) but this mid section is still currently bolted to the car (between the sports cat and BRM backbox. The Janspeed backbox's are both the same though as far as i remember!

The finish on 1 of them is a little thin. Not noticeable from distance but I know its there!
I'm not so fussed as I'm only gonna be using it for a few months then its gonna be getting a proper strip down and rebuild. With the numbers of these decreasing I reckon a good restore should hopefully make it 1 ofa few good remaining ones

Done it before on a set of wheels, makes a huge difference.

The tyres are uber noisy too! I only opted for some budgets due to planning on not using it so much before it gets stripped, but damn are they noisy. Seem like they have decent grip though.
Still getting some wobble through my brakes too, even after having replaced discs and pads again??
And car feels a bit loose on a "spirited" drive.
I'm at a crossroads with the car at the mo, really want to restore it and build the car to what i want, but with needing to buy a house, another car for everyday use etc, i dont know if i can justify the cost right now. If i sell it, then i'll be selling it for less than its worth. A rover 200 diesel fetches more than these at the mo!! I'd make more money breaking it, but couldnt bring myself to do it.
What to do??

What to do??
Do you love it? If you do then take it off the road and restore it lovingly for your pleasure or drive it and restore it gradually.
If you don't love it and you have itchy feet then sell it and move on without guilt. It's just a car after all.
I'm sure you never expected to get your money back when you were spending it, that's not why you did it.
Happy choosing. And remember you don't have to decide today. You can take years deciding if you want.:)
Shaggy
06-28-2011, 06:27 AM
I do but there are things that annoy me with the car too.
I never expect to get my money back from a car, i've had it a few years now, and it doesnt actually owe me that much so i wouldnt lose too much money anyway, i think what i want from the car wont suit an everday car with me needing roofbars etc, so once i have another car and start work on this then i might feel a little better towards it.

Well after driving to my moms and back, about a 65 mile round trip, i can safely say that these tyres a beyond noisy, they are god damn rediculous. I think there may be too much pressure in them so i will get that checked. The ride is real harsh too, nothing like with the other wheels on.
Stress!!!!!
Since getting it back on the road again, i've just lost interest in it. Thinking of putting it back to standard after today, i simply cant be bothered with it now, if someone gave me a big enough angle grinder i'd chop it into little pieces!! Grrr
Other than that it's fine :)

In an ideal world i'd love to keep it as they will be uber rare soon given the rate at which numbers are depleting.
Give it some love i.e. coilovers, respray, full engine rebuild, all brackets powder coated, etc etc etc
But right now, i just want the world to open up and swallow it!
Oh and i might be on the lookout for a set of cosmos soon. lol.

Yup
Operation standardish begins very soon.
My wanted list stands as
Interior ABC pillars and rooflining
Standard exhaust from cat back. I will leave the manifold on
Cosmos with good tyres preferably
Possibly standard springs also, but not sure yet
Parts on there way out will be
2 sets of 17" wheels (Probably)
St steel exhaust
Jamex springs (if i decide to change)
Hopefully this will free up some dollar to help fund another everyday car, something i dont mind jumping into and just driving without the worry of wrecking anything.

Havent been on in ages due to moving house etc
BRM now has some new speakers front n rear. The 6x9's in the parcel shelf were doing my head in so bought some pioneer rear speakers which were modded to fit in the standard place. Also bought pioneers for the front which were drilled/screwed to the door
Have recently had a few dents added to the car courtesy of some knobs at work, also few small parts of rust have popped up, nothing serious but enough to rile me!! My once immaculate BRM is now starting to look its age. It deserves a good wax polish to help protect it this winter as it gets used and abused.
Then hopefully come next year it'll get put in the garage and have some work done. Oh how i would die for a unit to store it in so i could work on it properly!!
Standard exhaust is here too so that'll be going on soon too. Bargain price of £65

A cheap rover 200 is essentailly a BRM lol
Exhaust was from ebay
My brother is keen is on buying my car after xmas so will see what frame of mind i will be in then, i know he wont take as good care as i would but then anyone other than an enthusiast will probably only just destroy it and break it!!

Is the powerflow a full system? The reason I ask is my mate has a zr 1400 and is looking for one. I know his has the 2 bolt flange on the cat, but I can sort that minor detail out. Ho much we looking?? If you want to sell any of your trick bits, can I join the queue :baby:

Think i'm gonna get an ATR over the ZS 180
Think my bro may be having the BRM after xmas. Not so sure he'll look after as much as i'd hope he would but who knows. Not sure if i could watch it slowly die a tatty death!!
Then again if i ebay'd it it'll probably swap chavs hands every month and then eventually end up broken on ebay!!

Just been looking on PH at some ATRs - not cheap for a 10 year old car, but there's a lot of bang-for-buck there.
It'd be interesting to run an ATR and ZS180 side by side.

Accord Type R
Probably wont be until xmas time, as ideally i wanna clear remaining debts first. But if the right one comes along then i'll be snatching it up.
I could still sway the 180 route yet, purely for cost reasons as they are sooo cheap to buy atm
Ideally i wanna garage the BRM but my bikes live in the garage now. Says a lot when my bike is worth more than the car!! lol

11-01-2011, 10:35 PM
What's the Honda like on fuel? I know from first hand experience that a ZS180 will try to kick you in the nuts every 300 miles or so.

Yet another car park dent
Some scrote has gone out their way to put a sizeable dent in the passenger door, right on the edge. Would have taken quite a swing as its quite a strong area.
Not happy as its dents like this that detract buyers. I'm going to have to spend money getting it sorted when i cant really be bothered at the mo with looking at new cars etc.
Grrrrr
Is their any point trying to own a decent car nowadays, tempted to just drive round in a shi**er and give as good as i get sometimes!!

Agreed Shaggy. After having mine done, it won't ever see a car park lol. I take up 2 spaces in my cabbie, and still got a dint in the quarter. T0553r5 they are mate. Might do it again and stand out the way and watch them do it, wait for them to go in the shop and take a hammer to theres and drive off ;)

If you read my cars thread I had someone at work reversing into me as I drove past, hit my rear quarter and now I'll have to get the rear arch done (as well as the rust on the roof, sunroof etc)
Most people really don't care about other peoples property.

Well if i decide to get it repaired i'll be tempted to get a full respray, then would probably keep it. Would be no point flogging after forking out plenty of money on it.
Still might get another motor but in the current mood, would probably be nothing special, and will throw the BRM in the garage now. Not ideall as the bikes are living there now and take up a surprising amount of room

How about the plastic triangles that cover the wing mirror backs, quite large but would look cool in metal.
Or...
The little panel that covers the handbrake adjustment hole, with the build number on it!! That'd be cool :D

Fitted Janspeed today, well back box anyway. Mid section to do tomorrow.
Before buying the janspeed i bought another exhaust, looks like a universal backbox fitted to a standard rear pipe. Fits really well and looks just like the janspeed when fitted. I'll be flogging this soon once i have cleaned it up, possibly with a TD mid section. As now owning the janspeed i'll have no use for it.
Hope to have my wheel centres in soon, not sure if i should paint em or not yet, will give them more protection from the elements i suppose.

Very nice matey. Are they to replace the MG centres on the ZS rims or for the cosmos? I wonder if it would be cheaper to make some of them for the 45 cosmos, then actually buying the proper wheels? People tend to go for the GAZ coilies mate, but it tends to be personal preference and what your using the car for, track/fast road etc

Decided to try and tackle the rear arches today. I had a can of Brooklands mixed up at halfrauds the other day but it is waaay off. So for the bits you cant really see I have ground the paint/rust out and added some Kurust and then a healthy dose of hammerite (Smooth dark green). Looks great TBF and will hopefully keep it at bay for a while. It wasnt really bad anyway, just some surface rust. There is 2 bits of about a 20p piece which are visible. The one bit i'm leaving as it hasnt grown in the last year but the other the paint has cracked so thought i'd rather bodge it up and try n save the arch. Only downside is i've gotta try and tart it up so it doesnt look tooo much of a bodge!!
Pics dont really show anything, just thougt i'd add them

Bugger!!
And my arch repair didnt go to plan so hammerite is the plan of action for now. Arch is very solid but in 1 place is a different colour!!
Come June (when MOT runs out) it is either being sold or rebuilt (properly).
I just dont have the enthusiasm to do small repairs anymore. Today has pi**ed me off!!!

Persistance wins the day bud, sometimes gets you down,I left two sprayed wheels in the workshop for weeks looking great under the lights, picked them up took them outside and noticed in the sunlight they were patchy, going light in places, had to rub them down and do them again as there going to get tyres fitted this weekend.
Then imagine how I felt when I had the side sprayed only to find its got paint reaction from previous cellulose coats, just over two years down the line and still not finished, but it bloody will be if it kills me :)
Shaggy

Well it runs out of tax and MOT at the end of may so all will be decided then

Too much work goes into these and don't have materials available.
Absolute ball ache getting them how I wanted in the end. Could be made easier with fixtures etc but simply don't have the time to do it.
Cost would put people off too :)
