Here it is.
Needs Heag gasket doing but after a good clean and a once over, its in very good condition. Few little dings here n there and drivers side rear arch needs repairing as its had a small scrape but other than that its very tidy.
Paintwork is crying out for a polish tho, but was too lazy to do it today.
Few pics
Before cleaning started.

Well chuffed with it.
have ordered some springs which should drop it about another 20mm. While i save for some coilovers.
Got some custom badges to go on the front and rear, nearly finished my strut brace too.
Got a few plans for it, first one being..............fix it!!!
Will post progress as and when there is any
Custom bagdes? Do tell....
Which strut brace did you opt for as well? I always thought the E-tech looks good under the bonnet.

Badges i'm making at work. Still a bit of work todo on them yet. I'm a CAD/CAM machinist now, which enables me to do some trick stuff!!
Strut brace is also my own too.
I like to make stuff myself, keeps me interested.
Excellent! I'll look forward to seeing some very trick parts on her soon then ;)

I love the badge between the heater sliders too!!
So, in true Internet tradition, I went onto eBay and bought THIS (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250325041408)!!!
£6.90 in total, and it looks like the seller has plenty left... Get 'em while they're hot!!:devil:

Looking good already mate hope you enjoy the car as much as I did , as I said when you picked it I did not really want to sell but when my cash flow picks up I be on the look out for another.
Good luck with fixing her up

I shouldn't have really bought another car TBH with the "credit crunch" etc.
But i wanted a BRM for a long time, this was perfect for what i wanted. I can make it mint now before it gets on the road.
Cheers Steve.

Small update!
Got the rear wheels off today so i could give it all a good clean and check the rear brakes out. Brakes look ok. Plenty of pad left so decided to give the calipers a lick of paint. Chose dark green in the end as i didn't want em to lairy!! Will be doing some more cleaning and painting tommorrow.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00764.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00766.jpg
Have been thinking of taking the rear beam off tho and giving everthing a good sandblasting and then get it powder coated.
Will see how bad a state my bank balance is first tho!!

What have you used to paint the callipers Shaggy? (It looks like hammerite?) The colour's a good match for brooklands green. Well done for 'sorting her out' before getting her back on the road.
Mine's levitating on four axle stands at the mo - few jobs to do and tidying up the callipers is one of them while she's up in the air.
Shaggy
02-22-2009, 05:12 PM
It is Hammerite. Its a close match, bought it to do around the boot hinges but while i was giving the rear end a check over and a thorough clean i thought i might aswell do the calipers in that colour.
Nice n subtle
Gave the wheels off the back a good clean today. Will probably be taking the rear beam off sometime soon so i can powder coat it all.

Small update.
Decided to do a temporary repair to the rusty boot hinges.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00772.jpg
Gave them a rub down and then a lick of hammerite. Not too fussed on finish as cant see it anyway day to day.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00774.jpg
Also started doing front brakes. Gave a check over and they must have been replaced recently as they're practically new.
Calipers are rusty as chuff tho, so got the dremmel out and gave a good clean down. Didnt want to remove them and sandblast them as i'll be upgrading to 282mm soon anyway.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00778.jpg
However i did sandblast the carriers.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00787.jpg
All calipers etc have been treated to a lick of hammerite and are re-assembled but my cam died so no pics to show yet.
Got some springs thro the post
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00793.jpg
And i've been busy at work.

Coming along well. Rusty boot hinges seem a bit hit and miss on Rover 200's. I've seen a fair few bad ones, but our P reg 214 and the BRM are good.
I work in what's left of the building industry and it comes in handy when I could do with access equipment or specialist tools, but nine times out of ten it's no use at all for anything to help with working on the car (unless I'm making wooden hose clamps). Looks like you've got access to tools and equipment that's going to get the BRM back to full fitness. Nice work with machining the parts for the strut brace / lock nut key etc.

You could keep knocking 'em out and put 'em on e-bay selling alongside your lock nut keys! :)

I'm starting to get carried away now with making stuff!!!
Work is more of an office job than an on site construction job for me nowadays - the chance to 'make something' gives me a fair bit of satisfaction - you must be chuffed with the way things turn out when they look like this.
Shaggy
02-28-2009, 09:10 PM
It is good once you've made something and it turns out well.
Even more so when others are impressed with it.
I'm liking the orange front brace, very neat touch.

Quick pic of the new front discs!!
I'll be skimming the discs that are currently on as they're practically new anyway, then i might even add some grooves to those and keep em ready for when these are finished!!

Agree with Shaggy.
It isn't really rocket science to change discs, but the thing that stops the car smashing in to whatever's in front of it is ever so slightly 'safety critical' :)
Invest in a Haynes manual - the step by step format of the instructions is very good. You must have the right tools and equipment and be methodical and thorough.
If you have any doubts, don't do it - someone will get hurt if something goes wrong, but if you're handy with spanners and have a good basic understanding of things mechanical you should be ok as long as instructions are followed.
strut brace looks superb bud, you should defo put one on ebay!! ill be bidding all day for it. great stuff. looks like you can do anything. top marks.

Rear Strut brace fitted

While under the bonnet i decided to tidy up some of the rusty brackets.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00827.jpg
A lot of brackets were like this so i decided to take em into work, sandblast them and powdercoat them.

Also made a De-wiper cap with a difference.
I've used the electrode that i used when making my gearknob. It removes material so that the numbers and gear pattern are raised slightly.
Doesn't really relate to anything on the rear of the car but thought it might be "Different"

Small update:
Fitted most of the brackets that were powder coated.
Fitted the strut brace ends, need to modify the bar that goes across, have spotted some material i could use at work which would look pretty trick.
Also de-oranged the headlights. While i was at it i added a bit of green to darken them up a tad. (Nasty did the same to his before he downgraded to the projectors!! lol)
Pics aren't great but the light was fading a bit.

Update
Have managed to paint the BRM mouth again as it was badly chipped. and the paint was fading anyway. Think it was one of the ones which was painted silver, then orange by a previous owner. Was a shocking job tho.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00891.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00895.jpg
Then refitted it, car need a damn good clean now tho. Also fitted the LCR splitter i've had in the garden for ages.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00902.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00901.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00903.jpg
Also wanted the orange ZR spoiler on the back, i had a spare spoiler lying around so decided to give it a lick of paint, unfortunately, the paint was a crap match so i decided to rip the spoiler apart and attatch the orange part to the original.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00899.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00900.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/DSC00904.jpg
Unfortunately, the paint has re-acted slightly so i might wait for it to set/dry properly, then rub it down and do it again, it'll just bug me otherwise.
Also here is another project of mine, nothing special but hopefully with the help of ebay it'll do for rattling round on.

03-31-2009, 02:53 PM
Goes in this week sometime hopefully.
Just need to tow it there now.
It'll be in the garage for a few weeks tho as it'll be done as and when they've got time, getting it done slightly cheaper ya see!!!

Also fitted my sliders. I'm hoping to make a custom centre vent to hold some gauges, will go along with the aluminium theme already in the car. Hoping to keep the car as original as i can with only a few exterior/interior changes.

I love the Nürburgring pi$$-take sticker!! Where'd you get that?
I'm probably going to make myself look like an idiot here - but what's "de-wipered"?? Is it something as obvious as removing the wipers? If so - why?
Shaggy
04-07-2009, 08:43 AM
De-wipered = Taking the rear wiper arm and assembly off.
I never use the rear wiper anyway and removing it makes the rear look less cluttered.
Got the sticker off ebay. Only a couple of quid.

Car went off today to have the HG done and loads of other jobs too.
Radiator - has seen better days, works ok but while its all being done, why not.
Water pump - its ok, but again, why not.
Cam belts - might aswell while its all apart.
Handbrake needs adjusting.
Mop the body. Covered in little scratches, which need sorting.
Thats it for now.
Much more planned tho, just waiting for funds to magically appear in my pocket!!
what do u mean mop the body bud? mine has loads of scratches to.
Shaggy
04-14-2009, 05:21 PM
Its what body shops do to remove overspray or blend in paintwork etc etc. Used with usually G3 compound stuff.
The paintwork is quite poor on the car and i've done a fair bit by hand but its really tiring so easier to do it using a machine polisher.
Will post up some pics of the results anyway. Will hopefully get it back before the end of the month. Head will be pressure tested and skimmed if needed, plus with all the other jobs i want doing it'll take some time. Its being done as and when they get time just to keep costs down a bit.
cool, how much will that cost u to get the bodywork scratch free? or just shiny?
Shaggy

Well as its mates rates, it'll prob be bout £10 - £15. It'll just make it look a bit better, bring the shine back out a bit.

Well i've got it back from garage only to find that it is loosing water still. Not sure where yet so its going back to be checked over.
Also it'll be having the new rad fitted (this might be causing the problem), a new alternator, as the current one is noisy as hell, and my new quick shift that i've acquired.
While i've had it back, I set to work on trying to sort the paint finish. It was awful whn i got it (to me anyway) so i have spent ages, cutting back and restoring the paint, all by hand might i add. Still got some way to go, but the difference is immense. No before pics tho, unless you trawl back through the thread.

Small update but no pics as yet
Have had a new exhaust fitted at a mates powerflow garage. The one on was A Janspeed rear box but the middle pipe was standard and was fubar so opted for a 2.25" catback.
Its a fair bit louder than the other due to the 2.25" compared to the 2". Not sure if it'll pee me off yet but we'll see.
Also got some other little custom bits closer to completion but not quite finished.
But......................
I might be tempted to sell soon as we've (my family) had a bad time of late and i might need the money to help out with a few important bills that might come my moms way.
So if anyone is interested then let me know as i'd rather it gets finished to the standard it deserves.
Just need to see how things go in the next few weeks.

52mm throttle body now fitted, makes a bit of difference compared to the shoddy plastic one

Also put a new battery on as the last one was dead as dead can get.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/shaggie/15102009312.jpg
Next job is to sort my awful filter out. Did start to make some sort of cold air feed but it ended up being over engineered so might just get some pipe work and route it behind the headlight. Not sure.
New numberplates on the way too, as are new tyres and manifold.
And

Definitely orange for the bars :D

Its a Fuji Outland comp, but i've recently upgraded the forks to solo air jobbies. Much better than the coils that were on from the factory. I paid the same for the bike which i got for half price as i did for the BRM:wacko:

Bike prices are crazy.
I personally think anymore than £1250 on a bike is daft. I've ridden some expensive bikes and they ride no different to something half the price.
RRP for my bike was £1300 and it's awesome to ride, and takes a fair bit of stick in all fairness.

Have you machined most of that yourself? if so your skill never ceases to amaze me!
I'm really liking the spark plug cover!
Also what does the oil catch tank do?

Wow.....you made that all yourself? nice handiwork! Wish I had the skills (and the machinery).
What's that "Sunroof blank thingy" exactly for?
Shaggy
03-25-2010, 10:18 AM
All machining was done by me yes. I like a challenge ya see!!
I was originally going to use the Forge cover but had the blank one aswell so decided to be individual
The catch tank basically catches the oil that normally gets chucked back into the inlet.
Adam has one he made on the TDR BRM.
TBH i only got it cos it was cheap and looks trick Yo. On a serious note, i hope to be doing some head work soon so thought it might be a good idea to invest in one.
I was so close to selling the car just after xmas but in the end decided against it. They're so underated that it just makes it even better.

It goes where the sunroof handle would be if it was there. I only did it cos i made some heater knobs for a lad from RT. He supplied me with the DXF files and gave instructions as to what he would like, then i modelled up some CAD stuff for him and the sunroof thingy stemmed from that.

Did you do the work on the top water hose,I noticed instead of that long pipe all moulded into one piece there a t junction splitting it and other joined further down,Its a good long term Idea as that top hose is over 50 quid and week on the joint.
Nice work on the car all round and like that cap I would pay you for one

Few updates
Well after getting my cam cover painted that was sent to me i went to put it on today only to find that it doesnt fit! Notice the 2 pipe thingies being different. This catches on one of the sensors at the back making it near impossible for me to use it. So this one is for sale and i'll have to get another one!

And a few may remeber me making a phone holder. Well i've decided against using it now anf just made some simple clips which my phone just sits in nicely. I might sell the other holder although it does still need the pocket trimming in some material to avoid scratching the phone.

Hi Shaggy, lovin the interior!
What type of fabric did you use to trim? Is it diffrent on the plastics to the roof lining? Been looking to do this for a while but not sure what fabric to use.

Small update.
Removing all parts i trimmed due to crappy adhesive in some areas. Only coming away slightly but its enough to p me off.
Also got my Janspeed fannymold at long last so that'll finally be going on soon.
Gonna have a weekend of stripping the car and making a start on getting it how i want it.
Now i have the clio i dont need to hurry with it!!

Also have new wheels. TSW Alpines 17".
Think they'll flow with the "Bubble" lines of the car.
This means the cosmo's will be sold this time as alpines are 1 of my favourite wheels ever!!!!!
Shaggy

Took alpines for powder coating today. Also having the cam cover done too.
Fitting the oil catch tank later then undersealing the arches while having a very good clean here there and everywhere.

Got the wheels back today.
Not too happy as they said a full refurb, and they have basically just rubbed em down, blasted em and then just powder coated em. From a distance they are fine but up close you can see the imperfections. However for £80 for all 4 ya cant moan really. Price reflects service!!!
Plenty of new bits coming, but gotta make a proper start on getting it sorted soon

£80!? that is a cheap refurb.

The quality of the powder coating is great.
I just presumed they'd prep a little better like they said they would.
Suppose their idea of prep is different to mine!
Still, they look fine, just need to get tyres now. Not sure whether to go for 40 or 45 profile

Making some centre caps for them now which should look pretty good.

I had this as well, couldn't figure out why they wouldn't seal. Then my neighbour tipped me about an oldfashioned tire-shop a bit further away. They looked at it, said something about small corrosion on the edge and smeared a rubbery glue on the rim before fitting the tires: problem solved. Those tires still hold air after almost 2 years.

I had my friend fit tyres on my coupe and we went the old fashion way as well,no lubricant,a tyre glue around the rims, harder to fit but like Seabarts they never lost a drop of air

Probably is the winter blues but I've just lost all interest at the minute.
If i had a garage then it wouldnt bother me in the slightest, i could just put it away and work on it every now n then.
I'm not goin to officially advertise it but if i had a good offer on the table then i'd have to let it go.
Anyway, back to a small update:
Replacement front discs and pads were put on yesterday, although i skimmed the discs when i put the 282mm conversion on i was getting a slight warp feel at speeds.
Oil catch tank is fitted now.
Interior is coming out again to re adhere a few areas which were trimmed.
And the Janspeed fanimold is being fitted very soon, i can then measure and make up an intermediate pipe between that and the cat.
I know the feeling Shaggy. Keep with it and you'll soon find the love again

We all feel like that, I sometimes do too, but then I will be car-less.
I still live with my parents and can only park my car on the drive or road as the garage either has the ZR rally car in it, or atm a Skoda 130 LSE which me and my dad are working on ready for 12 car rallies, autotests and PCT's. Plus with my mums car (Peugeot 308), the Izuzu Trooper and the Rover 75 Estate, we really do need the second driveway built soon as my sister is after a car too. Right ladies and gents,
I am seriously considering selling my pride and joy. It wont be until it is back together and MOT'd etc but once i have finished scrapping my knuckles, getting peed off with clips etc etc etc I'm very tempted to sell up.
Me and the missus are looking at buying a house and starting a family so i'm thinking a might want a bigger car soon. (Currently looking at Accord Type R's)
Financially I cant justify having the BRM aswell. Although if i had a huge garage i would consider keeping it.
Anyway, would anyone off here be interested in taking this off my hands :( :(
I'd prefer it to go to an enthusiast rather than a chav who'll destroy it then break it. I dont want to put it back to standard so want to sell as is. It might detract a few buyers but hey ho.
:( :( :(

To be fair i'd be open to offers, but i wouldnt entertain silly ones. By the time it is back together you'll be able to see it isnt just another brm. Hopefully it'll be a slightly improved version, with a few little trick touches!!
Like i said it wont be for a couple of months anyway, unless i had an offer on how it is now.

If you read through the thread you can see how much effort has gone in.
Once its MOT'd etc i'd be looking on the plus side of 2k. Might sound pricey but with what it will have on it and the one off bits i'd be hoping for at least that much.

Thanks for that :)
I took it for a short drive today, just to keep it ticking over (All on a private road). So much nicer to drive than the clio, mainly due to the extra ponies under the hood. Which will hopefully increase soon due to the manifold goin on.
But i'm still open to the idea of letting it go

Before the (possible) impending sale i have a todo list
MOT - as it ran out last month i think
Get manifold and bodge pipe fitted
Finally finish off interior - rooflining etc
Bleed front brakes - bit spongy
Move Battery to the boot - free up space for my new pipercross
Respray orange grill
Fit armrest (Custom jobbie)
New plugs
Clay and a wax
New headunit
Probably other things too, but by then it'll either be ready for a new owner or ready for me to enjoy for a few months before letting it go :(

But no pics
Manifold is on and bodge pipe is being made up tonight hopefully
Brakes bled as they were spongy
Battery is now staying put, i have modified my filter setup slightly to suit the new filter
Interior is half out again to finalise the trimming etc
Then comes the MOT, i reckon the shocks will need doing, if so it'll be coilovers and i'll keep it for a while, if not then its up for sale. Might get it RR to see if the mods have made any difference but depends if i can be arsed. lol
Toying with new wheels too, something different! (Agh, i'm meant to not be spending!!!)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Been struggling with decisions regarding the car, people keep saying to me, if you are selling it why put new bits on (manifold, wheels, tyres, interior). Initially i just wanted to sell the car complete and finished for a new buyer.
But now i've done some more work i'm finding the idea of selling it a tad difficult, they drive soooo good for the money and with the addition of coilies i think i'll be happy with it 110%, so toying with the idea of a ZS TD between me n the missus and then get the BRM finished to my spec entirely
Anyway, enough rambling
couple of pics, manifold and bodge pipe is fully sorted, tidied the bay up a bit too

Right I have decided to keep for the forseable future. (Could a mod delete my for sale thread). With the missus hopefully driving soon i wont actually be driving much so hoping to trick the BRM out a tad, possibly respray it.
However, i am changing my wheels (again). As much as i love the TSW Alpines i dont think they are suiting the car as much as i'd hoped, so they are up for sale.
I am going to go for 16's again, i'd have cosmos but i want to get them further out in the arches so i'm going for something different, like a 35mm offset maybe 7.5" wide.
Stuck on what to actually get yet so ideas appreciated if anyone has any.
Locked and locked :D
Glad you've decided to keep her.
Have you thought about the MGF wheels that the prototype had? I'd love to fit them but have never got round to working out whether the hubs are interchangeable or not ( I never fancied hub adaptors).

I get more and more frustrated, not so much with my car but with the fact that its all been mechanical and interior work so far and shes still looking body wise the same as the day I bought her with the exception of the rear bumper and exhaust, which I hate because of the fact that one side was scraped and dented in,after Longbridge its going to look worse because its going to get resprayed, so the bodywork begins filler and primer everywhere :(

Wouldnt say genius!! And have been empted to get other motors but for the money there is no better. Plus with not many of them left i didnt want to sell this only for it to be on ebay in 6 months being broken
As for the wheels i'm open to offers, but bearing in mind the tyres are brand new at a cost of £220, and i had the wheels powder coated in sparkle silver, plus the cost of buying them in the first place!! They do also come with 1 off centre caps!
pm me if ya interested
On a side note, i got the induction setup on tonight, unfortunately i ended up making a mistake measuring so now it sits slightly odd but its in and working. Gotta love the sound of pipercross foam filters!!

Bolts washers needed (Which i could see after a brief count)
M6 standard washers x 25
M6 18mm dia washers x 25
M6 bolts range of 10mm-30mm long (mainly 16mm long) x 40
This is only approximate as you could probably replace unseen ones too if you are anal like me. lol.
There are a few M8 M10 M12 i could see too but nothing really obvious to the eye
I am going to contact the bloke who i got mine off to see if he will do any deals/discount. Failing that a friend of a friend does anodising so i will ask if he could sort something out if i can get the washers/bolts for him
Would people be keen if i could sort something?

£30 ish sounds fair to me, not sure I'd be wanting to pay much more though.
Top work btw and thanks for looking into sourcing the bits for the rest of us!

£30 sounds ok. I didn't realise there were so many! Orange washes with green bolts would be spot on but maybe a little difficult? Thanks for finding out

Can get green bolts easy enough but they are only aluminium so not great really. They are ok under no load but i'd rather stainless ones. Plus the stainless ones are cheap cheap.
I'm waiting for a reply from the chap so as soon as i hear something i'll be in touch.
I also see my mate tonight so i'll ask him about the anodising

Are those washers anodized aluminium 'cause I've had a good search and can't seem to find them anywhere on the web. Bolts are cheap and easy enough though, just knowing what sizes.
If the washer price is too rude I reckon I may well just do it with stainless.
Are these like the ones you used?

There are a few bits which need sorting still but I want to wait until i give it a proper going over, if i decide on keeping it for the long term i'll take the engine out, all brackets will get re-powder coated and modified as some of them have parts which are not used.
Have just ordered some new stickers too which will hopefully look good
Wanna get me a battery cover too, hmmm, might make one :)

The Jamex's on BRM struts are much better in looks and feel then ZR160 setup. Less harsh but just as firm. Even though i perfer the BRM complete ride i didn't like the height. So this in my eye's at least is the best option that dosen't brake the bank.

The bay looks brilliant! I started swapping bolts over for stainless ones on mine, thought it would be rude not too when you've got a wall A4 stainless nuts and bolt available at work. Didnt ever get to far though.
As always your standard is very high, makes me what to run out and do some touches to the ZS.
