I'd been contemplating rushing the BRM through an MOT and putting it 'on the road' just after Christmas instead of our P reg 214 8v in BRG. The 214 was bought for our eldest to learn to drive in 4 years ago. Nice little car, low mileage (still less than 40k done) seemingly well looked after apart from a little tap on the NSF corner which had been fixed. The BRM would have been for the two eldest who have passed their test to use as they needed and for the youngest to learn in.

It needed a bit of work for an MOT and I just didn't have the time so decided against it.

It turned out to be a good decision. Child No2 decided to do this at the end of January

I've just put a refurbished back bumper on a black MKIV Astra this morning. I'm impressed by how well they seem to be put together.

The rover's been fixed with second hand bumper, support bar, bonnet and headlamps from a red (nightfire?) 216 from a scrap yard - it was back on the road quite quickly.

I would have cried like a baby if she'd have done this in the BRM (although I'm reasonably sure the BRM would have stopped a bit quicker with wider rubber and ABS - I'm a great believer that manufacturer's 'sporting' cars are safer because they can go faster. Bigger engine = better suspension and handling + better brakes)

Aah, the joys of motoring!! No-one hurt and the Astra driver was happy not to go through insurance which saved me fair bit of money on the excess, never mind the no-claims. It's good to know there's decent people still out there.

Whoopsy!

I'm sure we can sort your no.2 out with a bumper car for some practice?

I'm hoping she's had a bit of a fright with this and will look a bit further down the road 'reading' situations better in future.

Having said that - No.1 bumped this car a few months after passing his test too (no-one else involved). I got our old R8 rover 414 back on the road (sold to my brother four years earlier , but been standing for 6 months and he'd contacted a scrap man to take it away the day after I phoned asking to buy it back - £30 battery, £40 MOT - no issues). He bumped that a few months later too - head on with white van man on a narrow lane - similar damage to the bubble in the pics.

I'm desperately hoping No.2 won't emulate her big brother's "achievements" :)

Don't be too hard on them, us kids do learn our lessons eventually.

Took me destroying an immaculate R214si bubble shape before I learnt :slap:

That's made me feel a lot better :chair: Seriously though - any car is a lump of steel and it really doesn't matter what happens to it.
