Just a bit of info to show the difference a working O2 sensor makes to the emissions test at MOT time.

Both fast idle test results:

. . . . . . .Allowable . . . . . Actual . . . . . . Actual
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (test 1 fail) . . . (test pass)

CO - - - - 0.300% - - - - 3.959% - - - - 0.009%

HC - - - - - 200 - - - - - - -180 - - - - - - - 57

Lambda - - 0.950 - - - - - 0.885 - - - - - - 1.005
- - - - - -to 1.090

Both natural idle test results:

. . . . . . Allowable . . . . . .Actual . . . . . . Actual
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (test 1 fail) . . .(test pass)

CO - - - - -0.500 - - - - - -0.126 - - - - - 0.011

Above results for a standard 1999 BRM with 72697 miles on clock.

Even though some readings would have passed the test first time, the second set of readings after installing new O2 sensor does improve things dramatically. Nothing else was changed other than the O2 sensor.

Hope this is of use to soemone else come their MOT time.

All the best,

Gary.

Cracking bit of info there mate!

Any chance that you have the o2 sensor part number to hand.., possibly the start of a sticky for potential MOT fail related part numbers..?

I have CTS to hand, so 2 to start with.

I used an aftermarket part from a local motor factor - I'll check the receipt first and rummage through the bin if need be :) and I'll add it later.

The O2 sensor I bought is an NTK item('technical ceramics' side of the spark plug people - NGK)

Stock No 0498, other ID number 0ZA527-E9.

Hope this helps.
