I am pleased to announce that we have a stand yet again for the Classic Car Show at the NEC 2009!

Had the forms through today and will get filling them out and update you all with details as and when I know them.

Please be aware though that anyone interested in this event will effectively lose their car from Thursday 12th November until Sunday 15th November.

:mml:

Contracts have been received by the NEC, so our space is CONFIRMED!! :mml:

Theme for this year is 'Joy of the Open Road' and I have a plan in mind for the stand, so it will look a lot better than last year, rather than just a 'carpark'

For an unknown reason they have put us in a different hall to the other MG-Rovers, however, we are in the hall closest to the MPH/Top gear Show with some very prestige car stands so there will be a lot of footfall past the stand!

People confirmed:

1. Adam - No.2
2. Adam - TDR BRM

How many can be fitted on this year?

Adam

The stand this year is 13m x 5.5m (with no pillar). I estimate 5/6 cars could go on but obvipusly it depends on interest for the event.

Surrounding us are:

J-Type Register
Crayford Convertible Car Club
Classic Z Register
Honda S 800 Sports Car Club
MR2 Drivers Club Ltd
Gay Classic Car Club (ooo-err)

And not far away are Mercedes Benz Club Ltd, Maserati Club UK, Ferrari Owners Club, Bugatti Owners Club.

So some pretty prestigious marques near our humble BRM's :D

You can put me down for it, I was gutted I missed it last year, but I was in NZ for a month so had a reasonable excuse!

Gay Classic Car club?? I like that there is such a thing.

I'll probably definitely attend this show just to come and bug you all, but I won't be able to put my car on the stand.

I've been checking it out and I fancy the Top Gear Live show - £44 for the whole shebang on the Saturday! - I heard there's a travelodge sale starting Thursday for dates in November - might try and snap up a £9 room and make a weekend of it!

Good man Dan!

I should also be able to get tickets at 'very' discounted rates for anyone not displaying their car. Entry to the Classic Car Show also gives entry to MPH.

Will the discounts extend to the Top Gear show to, do you think?

:mml:

When would we have to get the cars in on the Thursday - suitable for driving up after work on Thursday, or is there a cut-off time? Although mine's boggo standard and, while 'clean', has been a daily driver and is in need of TLC and perhaps not best for putting forward at an event anyway. Son of snail's is better.

There is a cut off time Gary last year it was 5pm i just sneaked mine in for then after setting up and having to go back to clean her etc.

Mine is neither what you would call 'show quality' however it will be there.

Gearing up more for this now. I've decided on the stand layout and theme now :D

The show theme is '50 Years of the Motorway' so we're going with a service station look to the stand. I'm in the process of making a petrol pump but any accesories that people that are coming have would be great :D

Don't know if I will be able to show the car, as much as I want to, as Ill probably use it to drive there! However I will be coming, I was there last year and thought it was great. Saw you guys and it set the wheels in motion to owning one!

That's a shame Graham, its a great show.

Small update, I've not heard from Jona or Taffy about the show so may well have another space available. What i'll probably do in this case is order up enough tickets and passes for 5 cars + associated passangers and visitors and hope for the best.

Adam

Well because the theme of the show is 'Joys of the Open Road / 50 Years of the Motorway' we're going to set the stand up as a mock petrol station forecourt. I'm in the process of making a fake fuel pump and we'll also have other forecourt associated gubbins laying about.

Update.....

Numbers are dwindling now :( Taffy unfortunately can't make it, so m8typ you have a PM!

Plans for the show/weekend will be something along the lines of.....

Thursday AM - Meet at a point near the NEC (probably the same hotel as last year, will confirm closer to the date), convoy to the NEC and set up the stand.
Thursday PM - Head into Birmingham, check into hotels, see the sights and probably find a pub to relax, chat and have a few bevvies.
Friday - SHOW DAY 1!! See nice cars, chat to many people, promote the BRM's as future classics, etc.
Friday PM - Meal out somewhere, likely a Nando's or similar.
Saturday - SHOW DAY 2!! Similar to before, polish the dust off the cars that permeates the NEC, chat to more people, photos photos photos.
Saturday PM - Probably find a quiet pub, few beers, chill out.
Sunday - SHOW DAY 3!! Bring your bags as we'll pack everything up when the show ends and head off into the sunset :D

Ok, tickets have arrived! Thank goodness royal mail didn't hold up that little package.

I'll be distributing tickets at the meeting point (to be decided shortly) on the Thursday morning to everyone so that we don't have any problems with them getting lost in the post between myself and you guys.

Preparations are almost done, but if anyone has any more ideas to give the stand more of a 'Service Station' theme then please let me know!
