A mod well worth doing to your BRM I think. I spoke to a chap at Janspeed this morning about their Sport Catalytic and 4-1 Manifold.
They collectively retail at £450 but he proposed that if I can get at least 1 more person from the site interested he'd do a group discount, making them £350.
I asked him about fitting to the BRM and he assured me that the one we want (ZR160 versions), are a straight fit. Now I wasnt entriely sure on this so if anyone knows better then please enlighten me.
So if your interested in £100 pounds off a Janspeed Sport Cat and Manifold, let me know. (I havent haggled yet btw)
p.s If you dont want either of those parts but you want a other parts of the system, or the whole lot i doubt he'll turn down the business! :beer2:

where will you be getting it done

To ask a dull question (which I do quite often ;))
Is the ZR160 4-1 manifold a poorer design than the BRM's (as well as many other earlier K series engined car) 4-2-1 layout? (in standard form anyway - Janspeed seem to know what they're doing with exhausts)
With a bit of luck a clever one will be along shortly to answer.

count me in mate. I want a 4-2-1 and sportcat for my ZR 160

ps, try to find some more people and bring it to 320£, maybe 300£. They will if you get for ex. 5 people who want the exhaustthings
and ask the same question on themgzr. I'm sure there will be some more guys interested.
To answer a few of the questions, the Janspeed ZR160 manifold fits fine onto the BRM and is an improvement over the standard manifold. Bear in mind though that a Janspeed sports cat will ONLY mate up to a Janspeed manifold without modification.
I run JS systems on both my road car and the TDR BRM :D

I thought IIRC that the total system length on the ZR 160 system (due to the rear valance and bends) was longer than the std R200 system?
The rear box would sit more prominant?
And is the fannimold not 4-2-1?
Or have i missed the point.
When do you need to purchase Ad? i would be interested but will need to check with her and timing

Gary,
Not a dull question.
The idea on gasses is about getting them out quicker, the 4-2-1 allows the volume of gasses escaping to flow better than a 4-1 - think of the 4-1 as a huge funnel and the 4-2-1 as the same funnel with a neck that gets thinner.
I thought the JS was 4-2-1...? i'm assuming typo by Ad in his excitement..

JS system is 4-2-1.
With regards to length you need to purchase the ZR160 manifold, ZR160 sports cat, ZR160 interpipe and R200vi backbox. Then you get is sitting just right.

Sounds expensive:chair:
Bound to be cheaper that the £825 I gave JS for my ZS180 system though(and I still haven't fitted the fanimolds!)

I'd be looking to purchase fairly soon as my exhaust has developed a hole - providing a convenient excuse!

I asked the guy about that becuase thats what I thought and he said that "the manifold and sportcat will fit straight on with either r200 or ZR cat back systems". Do you think he mis-understood?
I'll double check with them.
I'm not a member of the Zr site so if someone fancies mentioning it for me i'd be grateful - bit long signing up for one post.
Frekkel - £300 should hopefully be reachable with only a handful of us going for it. :)

I'm 100% sure you need the zr midpipe. The rover brm cat and midpipe (where they come together) have 3 bolts. the zr only 2.
Maybe adam can ask on themgzr. If he wants to do that offcourse. think he's the most known person from us over there.
If people are commited to buy then quote and untag:

Well the system I have on No.2 is all ZR160 parts except the backbox to make it the right length.

Sounds about right iirc mate.
Would the price you are looking at negotiating include the blank (for MIL) and fitting?
Might be a nice day out to have a group there!

I believe the price just includes the parts - and delivery i hope. Wot do you mean by the blank and MIL m8?
I'm gonna ring the guy and ask him about throwing in a ZR interpipe for me because I need one - I trust wot adam says because hes fitted it twice lol.
Does the ZR interpipe fit straight on to the r200 Backbox - or is there modification needed?

Best way to describe is - http://www.ptp-ltd.co.uk/shop/258_50/mg_rover/mg_zr__rover_25/exhaust_systems/mil_eliminator_(malfunction_indicator_lampcheck_en gine_light).htm
The R25 and ZR have 2 of the - a pre and post cat you used to be able to put a resistor over the connector to fool the EMS into seeing the correct value - therefore the light would not illuminate.
The BRM only has one - which from what Ad says you can put a blank in to do the same.

right got ya! Theres no fitting in that price so I'm pretty sure its a sport cat and manifold straight out of the box.

Aye that's what i'm assuming, just weighing up the cost of having JS post it ( i guess over £30) or under an hour of their time to fit, even if they whack £20 there is only a few interested 5 people x 1 hr = 5hrs 5x20 = £100 notes extra and they are incredibly competent people there and IIRC last time i went up they do have all the kit and caboodle to do it.

having them fit it is a possibilty - was gonna fit it myself though. Doesnt seen to bad a job.
I think the price the guy gave me includes delivery - if not i'll get it out of him.

Can understand m8 - i've only got axel stands. :construction:
I spoke to the chap again this afternoon to clear up the fitting and postage questions.
He said: "The price includes postage to the UK".
Unfortunately Frekkel, he said he couldn't do inclusive to holland however he can "make a deal".
With regards to fitting, he confirmed that the ZR interpipe is needed for the exhaust to fit correctly but he said "if I had janspeed fit the exhaust they would alter the R200 interpipe to fit correctly". So basically anyone who already has the R200 cat back system (like me) will not need to replace half of it. :)
I then asked how much the fitting might cost and he said:
"£60 for the sport cat and manifold".
"£30 for a cat back system"
or "£70 for the full system (manifold, cat, interpipe and rear box)"
Now with regards to having Janspeed "alter" the R200 cat-back system for a Sport Cat and Manifold fit he said "we'll take care of you with regards to fitting price" - "it'll be no more than the £60 quoted earlier".
So for my personal situation; I already have a R200 Cat-back system and I want the Sport Cat and Manifold: -
Sport Cat and Manifold = £350 (group buy discount)
Fitting = £60
Total = £410 (still cheaper than buying it all of the shelf)
If anyone is still unsure then pm me your phone number and I'll talk you through it. :D
Its not too bad a deal IMO. :beer2:

-How much for midpipe or/and backbox
-when is the deadline?

I dont have a deadline as such, I'm just trying to get people interested and then i'll setup a system with the chap at Janspeed so that a reference number can be quoted for this particular deal. Ideally i'd be looking to purchase mine within a month but thats not concrete.
I havent asked about prices for any of the other parts but he's knocking around 20% or so off the stock prices. I'll have another chat with him and find out. Could you give me a rough idea of numbers from the ZR site?
I originally setup the deal for the cat and manifold but he'll do all the exhaust products under this deal.

Good stuff I can add you to the list then?
Confirmed:
Me : Cat and Manifold
Frekkel: Cat and Manifold
Dan: Cat and Manifold
If anyone else is interested then please add yourself to this list - name, parts required and either confirmed or interested.
Would be really good to get a couple more people on this deal because the more people there are the lower the price goes!
Frekkel: if you could find out the above information for the ZR guys i'd appreciate it.

In the message I need your name and DOB.
The info is so the guy at janspeed knows who he is giving the deal too - are you all happy with this?
I'm going to setup a reference number with the Janspeed guy so that you guys can ring up seperately, quote the number and get the discount on what you want.

They collectively retail at £450 but he proposed that if I can get at least 1 more person from the site interested he'd do a group discount, making them £350.

So if your interested in £100 pounds off a Janspeed Sport Cat and Manifold, let me know. (I havent haggled yet btw)

just a mini update,
have been in contact with the guy a few times and each time hes in the middle of something else. So sorry for the delay with this one. Im expecting a call today but if that doesnt turn up then i will ring tomorrow and tell him I want it sorted - I think we've waited long enough.

Right guys, good news.
The parts are all manufactured apart from two sets which will be completed by wednesday. The reason why this has been such a slow process is because the guy was waiting for the parts to be manufactured before he put any orders through.
the bad news - I also spoke to him about the price and he wouldnt budge - at all! I was really suprised, so I asked for a goodwill gesture for getting 7 people interested instead of the 2 he orignally asked for and he said he would knock £5 off! cheeky i know. So the final price is £345 (inc VAT and postage to the UK). Any other parts you need go on top of that price and is negotiated with him when you place your order.
I have to ring him back on monday and then we should be good to go. I'll pm or ring u guys on monday to let you know who and when to call, would think wednesday is probably the day.
