View Full Version : Build Number Listing
There were a total of 1115 BRM's produced, the original 6 being test cars to test parts of the chassis/drivetrain/interior, etc. These were all unfortunately scrapped and as such have not been included in this build listing as they did not form part of the total production run. Therefore the number of BRM's produced for the road was 1109.
They can be broken down as follows:
UK - 797 cars
Belgium - 50 cars
Holland - 77 cars
Portugal - 30 cars
Spain - 125 cars
Switzerland - 30 cars

People from the UK will note that their UK build number has changed too as for some reason the OMC omitted a car from very early on in the listing (number 6).

??? - V660JBH, WRITTEN OFF
I've opened up this thread to allow anyone to add to it, if you put your details on here I will merge it all into one big listing :D
Also on another note I'm thinking of creating a build listing of our own. If anyone pm's me their chassis number (I will not disclose these on an open forum), known build number, registration, etc then I will attempt to see if there is a correlation of all the known data!

Well from info sent by another member I can tell you all that the chassis numbers do not run concurrently as there were quite a few thousnd difference in the chassis numbers between a few hundred in build numbers.

They are not concurrent, but are they in the correct order?
They are not concurrent, but are they in the correct order?
Well I've only got mine and the other one to go on so far but these two are the right way round. Need more really to make a better comparison, ideally some that have build numbers close to each other.
Ok, got another chassis number of a car close in build to mine and they seem to be bearing out the fact that they are in the right order. There are an awful lot of chassis numbers between them though, will keep on it for you guys :D

This advert states only 150 had AC, but it doesnt say where he got this fact from
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C18121
hmm... a quick check on autotrader (some amusing examples, only 200 made apparently) only 1 had air con out of 7, which suggests around 100 or so but it's not really a big enough sample..
Include some for sale on pistonheads and it's one out of 12, which seems too low.
Maybe we need a poll?

my chassis nr is: ********** does it come before or after the english ones?
After looking at the very small listing that I have, it comes sometime after number 172. I wouldn't say too far after, but that is only a guesstimate. The only difference in your chassis code is to specify it as a left hand drive car, other than that its all the same bar the numerical code at the end :D

I don't even think there is 100 is there? i just thought it was a handful!
My Mums had it, but not many people do, i think it was the later models, when they could afford it, and they wanted to sell them, so they put AC in them to help!
I think anyway, not for certain.

How can these build numbers be right??
Were there a shed load of these cars in storage for 3 or 4 years before they were sold???
Mines a V reg No 744
Other V reg Numbered in the 100s
Before anyone pipes up that the reg has nothing to do with the manufacture date.. I know that.. but 3 or 4 years between manufacture and sale is a long time for a car to be sat in storage..
Anyone any info??
Adam / Youngsta ???

I believe a lot of brms did take a while to sell, one reason cited is the orange nose putting some people off - a reason many dealers ended up spraying the nose silver?
I also think the asking price was quite high - circa £18k?
One thing I can tell you from the history I have with my car is that it was sold by a rover dealer for £8664.75 in 2000 (a year after it was first registered) with 12800 miles on the clock.
I think until that sale the car had stayed within the Rover dealer network.
A bargain in anyones book!
How can these build numbers be right??
Answered your own question really, the majority of cars are registered as V reg, therefore late 99 early 00. With a starting price of 18k none really sold so as said they stayed in the network of dealers for a long time. IIRC there is an X reg out there.
Mine was first registered by Rover in their name.

I love it when I'm clever enough to answer my own questions.. they usually have me stumped.. lol
Thinking back tho.. I did see a Y reg rover 200 a couple of years ago..
Wouldn't it be nice to come across a nice sparkly unregistered BRM sat in the depths of an old showroom somewhere...
I even have my 08 reg ready..
BO08 MAN
Lovely plate there, I wonder if they'd allow it

If you wanted to register it now you would have to put it through an SVA test. It's hard enough to register a new Rover 75.

But because it's a limited edition car, it's likely to be registered but reported off the road - Therefore you wouldn't have that problem :)
There isn't much much timespan between S (late S I'd have thought) and V anyway is there?

It doesn't work quite like that. If it has been registered it has been registered.
To use an 08 plate would mean being registered after March 1st 2008. Wether it has been unused all that time or not.
If however it was bought and stored but unregistered you could have it put on an 08 age related plate but because the certifcate of complience for emissions have expired it would have to be SVA.
The registration that the vehicle is off road that you talk about is known as SORN and only applies to DVLA registered vehicles. You only need to SORN one the V5 is issued.

hi andy, i have my reg number here.... V188 HFA, u have it down as production number 40/37, i have a certificate here from owen motering club and it says the production number is number 32.
Ola.
In my personal opinion the certificates from the OMC aren't worth the paper that they're printed on. They made some omissions from their list for reasons unknown.
If you send me a private message with your chassis number I will tell you all the details about your car. (Click on my name at the top of this post and there is an option to send a private message).
On a side note I will be bringing a full print of the build number listing I have and the OMC listing to the NEC show to show people what I am working from.

There were a total of 1115 BRM's produced, the original 6 being test cars to test parts of the chassis/drivetrain/interior, etc. These were all unfortunately scrapped and as such have not been included in this build listing as they did not form part of the total production run. Adam thanks for the little comment by my old car
No probs matey :)
Don't know if you have this one. I bought a BRM tailgate from an eBay breaker. It was from tamworth and had theBRM.co.uk rear window stickers. Reg no T619 BDP has been broken for spares.
Can't see the reg on the list, unfortunately people don't always give it to me, so that'll probably remain a mystery :(

You'll need to PM the VIN number to Adam so he can find the build number directly in the list.

If details of who the first owner was are not listed on the V5 document then you need to write to the DVLA at Swansea, enclosing a cheque for £5 and asking for them to send you copies of their records relating to all previous owners. The Build records would definitely not list first owners, unless the first owner had been a member of this forum and had forwarded on details about his car to Adam.
Sorry everyone, been away for a few days on my stag do so just sorting out my PM's now.

Alas, V595 OAY should now be marked dead. It lies in a scrapyard in Stourbridge, near Dudley, and looks unfixable to me. It also seems to have had a very hard life. Lots of bits there though.
