temp stays down?

my temp keeps bobing up and down but only around the bottom like its not even tryin to get to half anymore, this even happned before i changed the engine? any ideas?
engine b4... vvc 1.8 105.000 miles
engine now... vvc 1.8 43.000 miles
help:(
oh yeah, and my alternator just fell off, like actually fell off, all 3 nuts and bolts came out and now its boucing around in my engine bay

replace the stat..

Mine started doing this and I replaced the stat with zero effect. Traced the problem to the coolent temp sensor. if you're getting a garage to do the work, this is the cheaper option to try first!

yeah was the same before i changed the engine so that could make sence, ill have a noisey about, cheers
