I acquired a turned alloy BRM electric window switch panel to fit to my Rover 218 VVC Coupe (sorry if this is against your ethics!), which will match my similar dashboard insert, and heater surround panel. However, I have a small query...

After removing the original black plastic blanking plate - because the Coupe never had electric window switches fitted in the centre console! - and replacing it with the new BRM version, I noticed that it wouldn't fit properly.

It seems that the carpet / soundproofing is stopping the item from being clicked properly into place, and I wonder if the BRM's carpet / soundproofing is actually trimmed back in this area (under the centre console), or whether their 'transmission' tunnel is a different profile in this area?

Once I had removed each switch I was easily able to click the BRM electric window switch panel into place without any problems.

Any thoughts, advice or asistance would be much appreciated.

Does anybody who owns a BRM fancy removing their electric window switch panel on the centre console, and taking a photo to show that the carpet / soundproofing have been cut back please?

I know it's an easy thing to do, which will be hidden when the switch panel is refitted, but I just wanted to make sure what Rover did for the BRM.

Many thanks.

I have been advised it could also be the 'tab' on the front of the armrest (that locates under the back of the centre console), that is causing the switch panel not to fit properly. I'll refit the switches onto the panel, and check to see what exactly is stopping it clicking into place.

Will report back with any findings.

Yes mate it is the tab on the armrest, i recently had a centre armrest trimmed in red leather and went to fit it and it pushed the electric window switch console out!! So i took the armrest and trimmed about 10mm off the tab which secures underneath where the switch console wants to sit and it cured it. So you need to remove the armrest im afraid mate and make a slight modification to the armrest ;-)

Thanks for that mate - a job for another day when I have some spare time I reckon.

My Coupe is due for it's MOT on Tuesday, so I have a few other jobs I need to do for that which need to take priority. The addition of a BRM switch panel can certainly wait for a few weeks.

Thanks again for your help.
