as some of you are aware i recently fitted a reconditioned cylinder head to the old girl , whilst fitting the new cambelt i found it a right paint in the arse to get onto the pulleys even with the tensioner fully slackended off..when i intiallay fired her up i noticed a slight whirring noise which what i think is the water pump bearing(a new one was fiitted) , this has since got quieter after doing 1k but is still apparent on idle as if the belt is to tight,,,which is why im wondering are there any variations on the cambelts for the 1.8 vvc with regards to the number of teeth on the belt...:beer2:

Did you renew the Tensioner??
When i changed mine with the belt a couple of months ago the new tensioner made a whineing noise for a while, it quietened down once it had worn in.

They can be a pig to get back on, you have to get it lined up EXACTLY right, but when its in the right place it slips on beautifully. Have spent ages swearing at them before only to have them suddenly 'pop' on.

yep tensioner changed!!!..ive had in the pass cars whinnig when the cambelt is replaced due to the belt being over tightened as this puts strain on the water pump usually causing a whine,,,mine has got quieter but is still noticable....cant be anything to worry about , just it didnt whine before the rebuild....
