Firstly how hard should the shocks be on the brm ? I ask this as my mate drove my brm and he said the suspension was soft compared to his escort rs2000. I tried to push his shockers and they barely moved yet mine on the brm compressed far more easily.
Is this a sign that the shocks have seen better days ? Ive seen replacement standard shocks on ebay would these be worth looking at or are replacement uprated ones available ?
Any help appreciated.
Hmm....how to answer. They're harder than standard R200 shocks, but still quite soft compared to some 'hardcore' road cars.
If they're shot then when you push down on the car and let go it'll bounce up and down for a bit on the springs, the shocks basically eliminate this. You could plumb for new shocks, how many miles has your car done?

When the springs are pushed down they push back just once with no wobbling as they are supposed to it was just the fact that they seemed very soft compared to those on the rs2000. Is there any upgrade shocks that would be stiffer ?
The car itself has only just passed the 70 thousand mark.
Shocks should still be ok at 70k.
An rs will always be harder than original BRM suspension, nature of the beast unfortunately.
You could upgrade to ZR shocks, slightly stiffer, if you wanted to stay with MG Rover, otherwise I believe PI do reasonable shocks for the bubble shape. of course if you really want a stiffer ride, much better handling, etc, then coilovers are the way forward although they aren't cheap.

Thanks for your help Adam.
Do you know the make of coilovers that would fit the brm and where to get them from as this is a possible option.
Would the MG shocks give it the same ride height as the BRM ones ( are the brm ones different to normal 200 bubble shape shocks? )
If I remember rightly the ZR shocks are actually slightly higher than the BRM shocks, although you're only talking a few mm so you wont really notice.
With regards to coilovers there are a few makes you can go for. The cheapest I know of are Gaz. We run Gaz GGA Golds on the track car....these you don't need, far too high specced for a road car. On my road car I use KW variant 1's, by no means the cheapest but the ride is just perfect. Its hard, but not 'crashy', but the handling is another level. You could also look at Leda and Avo who do coilovers as well, although I have no experience of these.
If you lived a bit closer I'd take you out in mine to show you how they perform.
