This is quite litterally driving me nuts!
My heater control is out of sync, when the valve is fully open the control will only rotate to about 75% - I've tried messing about with it at the heater valve end but it just doesn't seem to want to line up properly!
Anyone tackled this prob or got any pointers?
I'm about this > < far away from taking the dash apart to check the routing through the bulkhead

I had something similar on an R8 414SLi.
When the heat dial was roteted fully clockwise, it'd feel 'spongey' at what should have been the hot setting, but the dial and the 'max heat' point weren't lining up. The retaining clip holding the cable shroud had slipped from its mounting and once refixed was working fine.
So, if things are feeling spongey, it's likely you'll have to get at the cable . . . . . . . which means taking bits of the dash out.:(

I have a feeling it's to do with the cable shroud as it seems to be that at the engine side which is sticking out to far and not allowing the dial to rotate fully.
Thats it! when I get a spare afternoon the dash is having some surgery!

Had the same problem on my BRM. As the snail says above, the outer cable had come adrift behind the dash. It was caused by the pivot on the valve in the engine bay being very stiff. WD40 sorted it out.

you'll find on the back of heater controls that the outer cable is held into place by a small screw which clamps a clip to it , this can work loose causing both inner and outer cables to move at the same time when only the inner cable should move..simple fix but needs the centre console unit to be removed..

Right I tackled this yesterday, centre console out the lot! and I can't see any probs what so ever! the cable is all where it should be and there's no slippage on the shroud - both cables seem to operate the respective valves to the min and max but the knob just doesn't use it's full range of motion!
It's driving me nuts!
