picked up the BRM last night and did a 45 miles steady drive back home. was very pleased indeed. owning a classic mini with 150bhp, the BRM does give a similar feel of drive, very chuckable, light but pin point steering. great fun.

been trying to do some homework on some of the work i'll be doing to car but need some advice. loads of questions.......

polybushes - is it worth it? or should i replace with new standard rubber or a mix? minis tend to benefit from a mixture of poly, standard and uprated rubber on various parts of the suspension.

KN replacement panel filter - for £29 are they worth it over a yearly £6 paper element? can't be bothered with CAI's for the cost

dash clock - has an aftermarket stereo. can i get the clock to work again? the display is backlit, just no info coming up

cheers
matt

I believe ITG is the prefered brand for a replacement filter in the BRM :)

I didn't think an aftermarket stereo would stop the clock from working! it'll stop the display of the radio station names you get with a standard head unit - maybe have a look at it being a faulty clock unit?

Glad you're enjoying the car :D

Regards to your mod list, polybushes aren't essential the basic rubbers are good enough. Obviously if you want to sharpen everything up that little bit more then go for them, but putting the money towards a decent set of coilover suspension would see a dramatic improvement with regards to handling.

K&N panel is quite worthwhile to 'free up' the induction side of the engine a little, if it hasn't already got one then try and source a 52mm throttle body. it will rid the sticking problem the OE plastic body has and give improved throttle response.

also do coolant , and all the other fluids if your going to those extremes..dont forget the gearbox oil as most people tend to and make sure you get a good quality oil specially for g/boxes with limited slip diffs....as for the clock its more than likley cream crackerd if it just glows but has no digits showing....ive polybushed and fitted a k&n panel filter and would recommend both along with a 52mm throttle body...cheap and easy mods and you'll notice a difference...:beer2:

Yeah I had to do that too - for any easy job it makes you wonder why anyone would not have sorted it before.

It has to be a 200 thing as I saw about 3 BRM's and they all did it - at first I was suspicious that it was caused by a front end shunt.

yep, thought it was a bit odd.

does the brm have 2 oxygen sensors or one? and are they both the same? paper work doesn't suggest they have been changed so might change with the CTS too
