blimey, what a friggering nightmare trying to understand all the options for lowering - zr springs, brms strust 25 struts, xpower springs,

anyway i want to get a slight drop, say 10mm over the current standard but worn BRM strut/spring combo.

would fitting new BRM struts plus xpower springs get that?

my reasoning is that if i fitted zr struts/springs, the height would be slightly higher. fitting xpower springs to zr struts gives a 20 mm drop, so fitting zr springs to brm struts should drop a little lower (about 10mm) than normal brm ride height.

although the struts aren't leaking etc, and they control the bounce to a degree, the suspension on my brm has seen beter days. there is a certain amount of pitching and wallowing which is destroying the ride experience.

i've picked up some new rear brm shocks already.

......and no coilovers aren't an option:happy:

I'm not sure what the effect of xpower springs + BRM shocks would be, but I have used Avo springs + BRM shocks. The effects of this were a lower car, but a god-awful ride (incredibly crashy) and very inprecise handling, it twitched, jerked, tramlined, etc.

If you want to go low without any consideration of anything else then Avo springs are good, if you care the slightest about the handling of your car then avoid them at all costs!

i'm not going lower just because i want a "wikked slammed cool ride innit". i won't be purchaing any lexus lights or slash cut jap zorsts either.

the fact is the ride height is rather high for my personal liking and it could come down by about 10mm. its partly aesthetics, part handling and partly for fuel economy tweaks for my 60 mile round trip commute. plus the current shocks are way past their best at 87k miles.

i have a small budget to get the car up to my requirements but that budget doesn't include coilovers....simple as....

from doing some homework, it appears that xpower springs are made by eibach. thats the brand that i usually use - have had very good results before. avo blacks are not that great. dunno about regular avo springs but if they're anything like the mini or spitfire kit ( i have a triumph spit), they'll be crap hence why i didn;t mention avo.

stiffer ride - yes please. my fun car is a 72 mini clubman running a 92 calibra redtop 16v lump on haybusa TB's, full cage, fixed buckets, 5 pt harnesses and gaz coilovers all round.
