I badly need to get the brake pas replace (both front and back) but prefer to buy upgraded ones and dont want to have to pay out for a garage to do it if I dont have too.

How easy is it to replace the brake pads (for someone with very little mechanical knowledge)?

If there is a fair amount of potential for it to screw up I will just take it to the garage as the brakes are one thing I definitely dont want to go wrong :)

It's not rocket science, Barney - you just need to be methodical.

Pads are a simple swap on the front and rear. You may choose to remove the calipers and carriers to clean them up / paint while you're doing the work too? Rear callipers are more fiddly to play with than fronts due to the handbrake linkage and internal parts.

It will definitely be worth removing the sliding pins and cleaning them up as 'sticking' sliding pins cause heat build up and excessive wear of the pads.

I'm not a huge fan of 'upgraded' items . . . but the best 'upgrade' you can do for your braking system is to replace the brake fluid with new.

Have a look on.org at this 'how to' guide:
