View Full Version : What we do for a living

Sorry if it's been done before (couldn't find anything on a search - and I know we've all probably 'shared all' on different forums already), but the nosey old s*d in me is wondering what each of us does for a living.

I'm a 'builder', or at least like to think that I still am - as a 'Project Manager' (they used to call it 'Site Manager' when we were far less up our own ar$eh0les) I'm spending more and more time sat on my ever growing arse in an office playing with e-mails, filling out reports and tending to the plethora of company bullsh*t rather than actively walking the site keeping an eye on what goes on in the 'real world' (I'm getting close to having a rant - sorry). I've recently finished a £9m secondary school and am about to have a go at another secondary school at around £8.5m. Really looking forward to it as I (and the rest of the team) have learnt a hell of a lot on the last one and although things went well - the next one can go better.

So - what do you do?

BRMark

Well mine ties in nicely with the construction theme..

I'm a building services engineer - or in the current climate of global scaremongering I'm a designer working with environmental and renewable technologies.

Either way if anyone is building a house and wants some help with their services (heating/hot water/solar etc etc) I'll try help to the best of my knowledge :D

mine is pretty dull compared to you guys!

im currently a sales assistant for 'GAME'. (yes i know thats bad for a 29 year old bloke)

this is my second time at game as the first time i left to be an assistant manager for another company. My old boss, rick, missed me alot as i won 2 awards for being the top sales person in the country, so he offered me a good oppurtunity to come back, and i left my assistant managers job to go back to game.

part of the deal was that i am now being trained up to be a manager but i have to do senior sales first. 1 step at a time!

p.s, i can get very good discounts at game 25% off games and 10% off hardware!

Im an Accounts Director.

Its a nice way of saying I sell stuff. I will soon be moving on and up to specialise within Merchandise and marketing for the Alcoholic beverages sector.

My old job was much the same only I diddnt have a specialist areas, my clients were all kinds, banks, charitys, universities, hotels, councils whatever.

I sell them all promotional tat.

Next time you go into a Hilton and they give you a Hilton pen..or if your an extra special client, maybe an umbrella, a bag or more recently a bespoke plastic duck. (I know..I dont want to know what goes on in the section of my brain that comes up with these ideas either) then think of me.

I got into the sales and marketing game the same way most people did.

I went to college and did design and passed with distinctions depsite my tutor having to lie about my attendance to get me through, went to Uni, discovered cider and boys and decided I couldnt be bothered with design, so I dropped out, stayed in halls, got drunk and partied for a year or so then moved to a new city applied for my first sales job. My zero qualifications and no job sills whatsoever made me perfect for the job...they snapped me up.

From there I've sold Incontinence products (seriously, that makes a sales person strong..selling "special!" pants.

Aggregate building blocks (which may have been of use to Snail) and mobile phones, finally settling for merchandise because I can design things (fun) and I get to spend alot of time out to lunch and most everything I do I can expense account.

Thats it really :) :)

And I'll be wanting Forza 3 for a tenner....

Can I just say 1 v 100 on live is the best 360 game there is.

I am a student (wait hear me out) studying for an Masters in Digital film, in Carlisle. When not in Carlisle I live in Ipswich.

I work at Fat Face and I'm a freelance Runner. Not the athletic kind, but the kind that goes on film/ad/music video shoots and does a lot of hardwork, lifting, getting teas and coffees, helping with extras etc etc, currently working on the new Homebase advert. One day I will become a director.

I have an X box but no TV to plug it into, it has been in the box since June.

Trust me it is very boring being an extra! A lot of waiting around doing nothing, and not that well paid! (although this does depend on the project) if your serious just get in contact with some casting agency's.

I work for a carers centre; i try to raise carers issues to Primary Care staff, that is unpaid carers who look after a relative or friend with a disability or illness - part of my time is spent working with kids who care for an adult, trying to make sure they can still be kids, and get the help and support they need. Its like Social Work without the stigma!

I work for Europe's largest tool distributor and I supervise 25 staff (when they all turn up at once!) in the main packing and despatch area. I am also a qualified FLT instructor and am partly responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all 60 of our FLT fleet.

I used to be responsible for the supply to national accounts such as ASDA, Tesco, Halfords etc, but I got bored with it after 8 years and needed a new challenge.

Every day is busy, but I'd rather it was like that. I've been there for 22 years this year!

Kev.
