to sum it up not a good weekend.
it rained all the way down to cornwall on the friday night, then when we arrived the field we park in was a mud bath. i got the car in, just, but dad had to be towed in in the camper van.
saturday morning was a bit dryer so put on my track tyres, toyo r888, and struggled to slide down the field to the start. the 1st practice run was a bit sluggish just to check the track but it was obvious the engine was down on power.
the next practice run was very much the same. slightly improved my time but car was well off the pace.after my two proper timed runs we set a time of 36.45 seconds. which has proved there is something wrong with the engine as last year i used a standard rover coupe 1.8 vvc and set a time of 35.7.
with racing finished for the day i decided to have a play with the cam timing. after a few adustments i took it for a run and it felt amazingly quick. revving quite happily to 8000rpm but didnt want to take it any higher.
sunday morning and it rained, lots. didn't stop all day. so just used it as a bit of a practice day. after the first run it was clear that however fast the car felt on the road it had made no difference on the track. so we just mumbled on through the day and then went home.
not a very successful weekend but at least now i know we have to make some changes to the car. going to book it in to a local tuning specialist this week so he can have a look at it on the rolling road. luckely it turns out he was the guy who developed the rover VHPD k-series engine so he should be able to sort it. i'll update you all as and when i can.
next event, Wiscombe park hillclimb, 28th+29th July.
