Yesterday i did a mini service on the car, don't no when the last time it was done so thought i might as well..

Engine flush, oil change, new oil filter and new fuel filter

All went well except the oil filter being a pain to get off. When i had finshed i went for a little drive, i hadn't drove 2 mins before i heard the raidator fan kick in and it stayed on for a very long time.

The temp gauge shows normal, then a whet to turn the heater fans on.
No hot air what so ever, just cold. i drove home to see if a could find the problem.

The temp gauge still shows normal, the coolent level is fine and the fan does turn on and off every few minutes when idling. Still just cold air on the hot setting.

I can't fathom what the problem can be, i was thinking it could be the water pump but surely the the engine would overheat and the temp guage would show this?

Any ideas anyone? :please:

Hmm......could be a thermostat. Best bet is probably to get it on a diagnostic machine and see if they can find any fault codes.

Well it's seemed to fixed it's its self now, burning hot air!!

No idea what the problem was but a full coolant flush is on the cards, just to make sure it don't happen again.

Should i install a new thermostat when i do this?

For what they cost & with the age of the car i would say yes.

Well i found out what the problem was...

Major head gasket failure!! lol  i have to laugh or i'll cry!

My oils like cream and i'm losing a expansion tank's worth of water every minute

Looks like i caught it just in time, off to my local mechanic tomorrow :cowboy:

Anyone know how much this is gona cost me?

Around £500 isn't a bad price tbh. Depends if more damage has been done.

Sorry to hear its happened mate :(

I know the feeling of buying the car then this happening. Exactly the same thing happened to me! I paid around £450 for this to be fixed by an ex-dealer. Luckily I also had a warranty with the car that covered some of the cost.

My gasket went but there was little to no oil/water mix. My gasket failed on a waterway and I had coolant squirting out near the alternator.

Well good news if you can call it that! I had a mechanic friend of my dads over this morning to look at the HG problem...

He said that since the oil i took out a last week was uncontaminated, that i have caught the problem early and there has been no overheating or other damage.

All that needs doing it the HG replaced, new head bolts and all the oil rails flushed of the gunk oil.. oh and new timing belt as it can't be used once removed.

£150 if i could supply the new gasket, bolts and timming belt :clap2:

I think i've been quite lucky, this little problem was going to make go out tomorrow and buy another Honda.. lol

Well just an update on this, the car is fixed and on the road again, running better than ever!

Anyone who encounters this problem (every k-series owner lol) don't worry too much, i don't think its too big deal if you catch it early enough.

The HGF cost me £210, which i didn't think was too bad..
