ok so put my new BRM in for its MOT today after it being sat for a year with the pervious owner.

It failed on a few things

Rear Brakes - adjusted and now fixed (hopefully)
Handbrake - adjusted and now fixed (hopefully)
Emissions - over what they should be
Missing seatbelt connecter in the back! (didnt even think to check it was there)
Lamba sensor - out of range or something

So I've fixed the back brakes and handbrake but I would like to advise on fixing the emissions which where over double what they should be and also the lambda sensor.

The person who had the car before me has replaced the air-box with one of those cheap induction air-filters which is currently flapping about where the original air-box should be.

Does anyone know what air-boxes will fit the BRM? Also my dad seems to think some RedX and a good thrash up the motorway should fix the emissions problem, any takers on this idea?

Thanks
Karl

standard r200 airbox, the trash on the motorway will clear alot if its been standing for a year.

Has it got a standard exhuast?

If the lamba sensor is faulty then that will knock the emissons out

Well done that man..

New Lamba probe is about £22 mate - also the CTS and ETS sensors could be a bit duff - either naff connections or duff sensors.

Presume that youve done the basics now so Iam not taking the mick when i say make sure the spark plugs are new and youve put in a proper air filter many a car fails just because the plugs are old/worn...after that your looking at a proper diagnostic cause you can guess and guess till youve spent all your money changing things...What sort of milage are we talking about with your car and is it running ok or does it feel like its overfuelling missing etc

The cars had a full servise including new plugs and airfilter. Its done about 110000 miles. After fitting the new CAT and Lambda sensor it seems to have less power then it did before, even after being sat for a year.

Is the new lambda sensor a one specific for rovers complete with the correct multiplug or is it a universal one where you cut the multiplug off the old sensor and join the wires with connectors. We sometimes had problems with the resistance in these universal connectors being too high and giving false readings.

CTS - Coolant Temp sensor
ETS - Engine Temp sensor

These will alter idel and running of the car..

Also it might be worth getting the car a diagnostic clear down of fault codes, if any of them log permanent faults this will continue to hamper your cause.
