Right, i've got the 'rattle can' primer, BRM orange paint and laquer for the re-orange job on my (silver) front grill.

I have rubbed down the grill with P600 wet n dry, and applied the first 2 coats of grey primer, and rubbed down to a smooth finish...

So do I need another coat of primer before the orange? And how many layers of the orange should I go for? 3, 4...?

Also, should I laquer the grill or not?

I'm a complete novice, so any advise is greatly appreciated,

thanks
Matt

3 coats of primer, 4 of the orange and 2-3 of the laquer. about 2-3 days work if done properley.

thanks Si :strongbench:,

not far off what I had in mind, just wasn't sure if laquer was the 'done thing' ?

if the sun is shining tomorrow, it should be done by dusk :pimp:

the laquer gives it protection and a deep shine. to be honest, if you complete the job by tomorrow night it wont last very long.

the primer needs around 24 hours to properley dry, then the orange around the same time.

the laquer is the hard thing to get right.

you want to have your primer smoothed down so if its all grey after rubbing it down dont spray any more and use a tack cloth to make sure no dust has settled then apply as many thin coats of orange till your happy with results
If you do get a run dont despair let dry properly then get the wet and dry out again and rub down even if it means a bit of primer and rubbing down again.

when alls done be very carefull with laquer it comes our quick again thin coats drying inbetween till your satisfied

practice makes perfect good luck
