i was wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost to get my brm looking new again.

i really love the car and really try to look after it but it annoys me when i clean & polish it to see all the stone chips, marks on wheels and little rust bubbles. if i had got this car when it was new i would of made sure it still looked that way.

how much do you think it would cost to turn the clock back by getting it all resprayed and tidied up?

I'm going through this process at the moment mate.

Refurbing alloy's has cost me about £150 (trade rates)
Refurbing front seats (the rest are ok) I'm budgeting about £400
Respray I'm looking at around £1000 (trade rates)
Refurbish engine probably with extra bits and bobs around £3000
Then a full professional valet I'm budgeting about £200

Taking a long time but well worth it in the long run I reckon :D

just been working away and got some spare cash. wanted to get it resprayed because it isnt in very good condition but the temptation was too much & booked it in at ptp for janspeed manifold and sports cat in three weeks. now i am skint again but planning future tasks. i am looking at about £1200 for respray and alloys then?

what do they do to refurb your wheels?

Well my wheels had various scuffs and some marks on the spokes, also had 3 slow punctures as the original rims are naff at retaining air due to the way they were made. They got rid of all marks and resprayed them sparkle silver so they glint in the sun again and are like new. Fully resealed now with no punctures which is a blessing!

i was looking at getting some new alloys cause i didnt know how they refurbed them. shall i just get them refurbed then or do you think i should just pay the extra?

i still dont really understand how they get rid of the chips that are missing from someone not knowing how to look in a mirror when parking. (my brm came from a lady owner so this explains the scuffs and lumps missing)

Sometimes they weld new metal in. Usually with the scrapes around the edges they mill them flat again.

No worries. Look around and maybe ask to see finished examples of their work as there's no-one I can recommend up your way.

Seems that everyone is continually doing their BRM's up :-) i'm doing the same. Nearly there though.... woohooo

She's only got 35K on the clock, engine has been checked out, pressure tested, full service last December only done 3k since then so thats all good. 52mm throttle body, replacement K&N panel filter & cupra splitter in place.

I've just purchased a new mintex discs and pads all round, upon professional advice I was advised to avoid an EBC setup although i'm sure they are grand....

Brakes, Janspeed exhaust, mesh for the grill, silvatech bulbs for de-orange of the headlights & some caliper paint all in the post.

Professional Valet has been carried out on the interior, arm rest in place now & my alloys were all stripped repaired and re powder coated last wed. I've got replacement covers for the front seats but haven't bothered fitting em yet.

Its going to be a busy weekend....... bank balance is becoming painfully low.... this brm business aint cheap.

A respray in the future would bring her back to new which would be lovely, i'll keep wishing.

Thing you have to think about is tho no matter how much money you put into it you will never get it back.Even if you re-spray you will still get stone chips, seats will still wear & you still have the chance of kerbing the alloys.

A good point Reaper, the way I look at it is, you never know if something is going to crash into you etc... and total it anyway, best thing is to enjoy the car.

I find the local scrap yard very useful as you can get a lot of parts to keep the BRM looking new. For example when I got the car my parcel shelf rattled like mad, turned out the clips were broken and bits were missing. Managed to get a parcel shelf for a ZR for free from my local scrappy.
