In an attempt to be topical i'm interested in everyones views on next Thursday.
Normally I couldnt give two hoots about politics but this year its caused quite an interest. Personally I think im going Conservative as would like a change from Labour, but interested in how everyone else will vote? And reasons why?

Maybe Adam would be kind to set up a poll?

Obviously this post wont stay on topic for too long, they never do on here...

Labour for me because personally my life over the last 10 years has been pretty good and overall I'm happy with how things are going. I worry about the other parties making grand promises which are very easy to do when all you've got is words.

Also I've been reading a book on the History of Britain over the last 100 or so years and I noticed two key points:

a: The Tories nearly ruined the country the last time they were in power.

b: Labour introduced the NHS and more importantly we won the world cup under a Labour government

I was really tempted by Lib Dems, from a little while back. I agreed with a lot of their views and it looked like I would be better off with them in power.

That was until i found out about their transport policy, and the plans they have for a pay per mile scheme. If I remember correctly, using busy commuter routes at peak times could cost you up to a pound per mile in tax!!

That leaves me with Labour and Conservative. Labour have almost bankrupt the country over the last few years, and I've been getting poorer and poorer under their tax rises and the way they've affected our basic cost of living needs including food, electricity and petrol.
They also don't seem to have any intention of paying the countries debt back through cost cutting measures and reducing the wasteful spending. Their plans all involve increasing the tax we pay - particularly on our income through NI rises.
They've also failed to reign in the banks and the outrageous bonus's and salaries that are paid, despite the fact that we as the tax payers bailed them out less than 12 months ago!

That leaves me with Conservative.

I think i'll vote UKIP.

Labour.

I think at heart Gordon Brown is a good leader but he took up the reins when the country was in serious s*it, and hes pretty unlucky in that respect, I also dont feel the british government could be held entirely responsible for the financial crisis, it was an accumulation of global financial failings. I do think its realistic to expect Tax increases and any party claiming thats not going to happen either hasnt done their sums or knows something we don't.

As an unattached female without kids who works full time most of the conservative policies don't appeal to me even slightly, the intention of giving people money to get married...seriously? so the £1000 odd a month income tax I pay is going to help people who have a joint income and so are already better off than I am anyway..!!?? No ta. (soz married bods)

Also, more than anything..I just think that putting the country in the hands of an Eton educated shmucko who should only really have ever been put in charge of his dormitorys polo team is a mistake.

And Mr Brown got a funk on after a public appearance today and called an Angry little northern lady a Bigot and then (quite rightly) returned to apologise to her as it wasnt very nice.. Anyone brave enough to face the wrath of a scorned Rochdale woman deserves a vote in my book

That married person thing is a crock anyway, it's like £100 a year or something - pointless ammount of money better off spent elsewhere.

Last people on Earth I'd vote for would be Labour. F*cked up the country a treat and their promises about keeping the price of fuel down after the protests lasted all of 2 weeks I believe.

Gordon Brown himself is a spineless chump and needs putting on a boat in the North Sea along with the rest of his party and used for RAF bombing practice.

:D

I think they should legalise canabis so it can be taxable - with the decline in cigarette sales after the offensive on smoking in public this money could be used to offset the tax loses.

On that note...anyone seen the vandalised conservative billboards group on facebook?

Best one is Dave Eton Grad Cameron with a spraypainted an Elvis quiff

Then underneath the strapline

"we can't go on like this"

it now reads

"with suspicious minds"

Magical.

Im attempting to wade through reading the manifestos at the moment.

All parties guilty of over using the word "change"

Adam
04-29-2010, 11:19 AM
Labour only use the word change because what they've done for the past years is cock it up, so they have to change

We don't need change.

We need everything scrapping and starting from scratch.

Starting with low running costs for all 1.8 late 90's motor vehicles.

Yeah but the other choices really are:-

Lib Dems...Manifesto is NOT convincing and some of the info conflicting

Conservatives...Nice if your rich, but I'm not. :(

Green Party...Aren't trees the BEST?? ...????

Whaddaya gonna do?

Adam

Well the last thing the country wants is a hung Parliament. People seem to be forgetting that if it's hung, then the country will basically stagnate for 4 years and we'll be in an even worse crock of sh*t than we are now.

What makes you think Conservative ideas are just for the rich? They're gonna scrap the increase in NI which will benefit all of us, and they plan a price freeze on petrol unlike labour who are happy to let the price reach evr further skyward.

And the tax benefit for married couples, although monetary wise is a crock, i like the thinking behind it that they're trying to encourage stronger families.

Aren't they also planning a minimum entry requirement for immigration, the the immigrants have to be able to at least speak english. it's not enough, but its certainly a step in the right direction.

I thinks it's a false economy, the sort of people who will get married for an extra £100 a year are the sort of people who will rape the rest of the benefit system.

Lets face it no party is going to rebuild a system the favors the scroungers that have never put a penny into the system, and just keeps upping the tax on those that work,Ive worked everyday since I left school,I cant sit on the dole breed children and say thank you for a house a income and the chance to never work,I see it all around me living on a council estate and it angers me like the way immigrants are paid out without ever putting into the pot,In this country a working class man is the lowest of all when he should be respected and somewhere near the top of the pile.

You are quite right and I believe that is a direct quote from Margaret Thatcher during the Tories last reign.

Attracts wealthy investors into the country to bolster our current industries and create new businesses, which therefore lead to new jobs, etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda.
