hi guys,

i recently had an issue with my rear calliper, whereby it wasnt releasing the pads from the disc. now, i believed i had sorted it but it appears that something is not right. every now and then when im driving along, the car seems to judder quite badly, but, does not do it all the time and on all road surfaces.

would i be right in thinking this is a warped rear disc as i can hardley feel the judder through the steering wheel, or, could it be a buckled wheel?

any help would be appreciated.

cheers, simon

If your calipers been binding it's highly likely the rear disc is warped due to the friction heat, chances are you brake pad is a gonner too.

Lost air in the rear tyre??

Hold a flat edge against the disc (flat screwdriver end or metal ruler etc)while an assistant turns it for you see if if the disc runs true

did you have this problem before changing the wheels ???

Another posability is wheel bearings

its bizzare though as it only does it on certain road surfaces????

and, its only done it since i put the straights on. the tyres are all new and they seem to be ok. now, if it was a problem with wheel/brake, would it not be constantly happening and not just on certain roads?

im baffled!

ok, just took the ol girl out for a spin and i decided to have a look at each wheel, i subsequently burned my hand on the rear passenger side alloy, which then leads me to believe the caliper has siezed again and caused the disc to warp.

anyone agree with this theory?

I wouldnt imagine the disc being warped would cause severe vibration. Maybe a little but it all depends how severe you mean?

Mine is vibrating like buggery at the back to at the minute but i'm putting it down to the wheels needing balancing.

That theory seems about right!

BTW: the mechanic @ my local Ex-Rover dealer told me that that side seems to crop up more than the other side, possibly because it is always "on the dirtier" side of the road.

seeings as i never updated this thread i thought to benefit others in need i should tell you what it was.

basically the passenger side caliper had been stuck on for that long that the disc had kind of been uber-warped (if there is such a thing). i was basically grinding metal on a warped disc which in turn was causing the rear of the car to 'wobble' and vibrate quite badly. before the london to brighton meet i changed all the discs and pads and it hasnt done it since!

thanks to the guys for the advice on winding the calipers back aswell. i wouldnt of been able to do the job without that help. i did however have to buy a caliper wind back tool made by draper and it was fiddly but when it locked in place it was no trouble at all.
