View Full Version : Trip in the summer
Hi everyone me and my friends are partcipating in a homemade challenge to buy 3 cars under £1k and take them on holiday with us. The iternery is subject to change but we are starting in Glasgow (the local Tescos) and travelling down to Dover for the ferry over to Holland where we will drive around and then enter Belguim and Germany. The trip is to last for roughly a month and we all need a car that is up to the job.
One of the chaps has bought his which is a BMW 318i on the R reg. Its covered 133000 and surprisely its really immaculate. Me and thge other chap are undecided but ive been thinking of getting a BRM to participate in the challenge. My reasoning is it will be better on fuel compared to the BMW, it is smaller and quite a nippy wee car plus its unique.
At the end of the run i will be keeping the car in my garage and overtime it will turn into a showcar.
Now this is where you guys come in. Is it possible to get a BRM with around 80k on the clock for under £1k ?. It needs to be in quite good condition and obviously mechnically i would want it to be as tight as a welded bolt.
Oh and most importantly we are set to set off on the 7th of July.
Firstly welcome to the site
I would think that if you keep an eye on Autotrader/Ebay, etc, then you should be able to pick up a mechanically sound one within your budget. Might not be the best example ever, but should serve you well.

Thanks for the very quick reply and thanks for the welcome.
Thats what im thinking aswell but they seem hard to come by espically here in Scotland. I guess i could live with the rusty arches but the car is meant to be going to a show over in Holland. I guess the fun part of the challenge is making sure the car is up for the standards of the high motorway mileage. Im guessing ill cover 6000 in it thats there and back. Im very very tempted to buy the car then wipe the head off and replace it with the MLS gasket if it hasnt already got it.

Hi, I've just dropped the price on mine, done 127k but never missed a beat since I've had it, see my add in for sale section and get in touch if your interested. Good luck, Andy
Ive bought my new car now and im glad to say she is infact a immaculate Rover 200 BRM. Pictures are to follow when i get a decent camera. Picked her up for £1100 and she came with many spares including a brand new exhaust system, 4 refurbished cosmo alloys sprayed gunmetal, a spare interior (slight rip on driver seat), full service history (independent garage) and shes only covered 45k yes 45k.
The car has a upgraded HG, new timing belt, new tensioner, new trackrod ends, new tyres on both sets of alloys and of course she has the party piece a brand new stereo system with boombox in the boot.
Im very pleased with this car and cannot wait to get started on modifying her. There is no rust whatsoever, not even a stone chip however there is a slight scuff on the rear bumper (apparently the last owner reserved into a bicycle some child had left behind the car.
Ill post pictures once ive completed the work on her and want to carry out and then post pictures.
