Basically as per the title, my window decided it wanted to stop working as I pulled up outside Tesco's last night :(

I think it's fallen out of the runners. Knew it's been going for a while, but last night it decided it didn't want to play ball anymore.

That's another job for Sunday now, which has become my dedicated day for sprucing my road car up again. Lots of little jobs to do including giving her a much needed clean so i'll keep you all updated with lots of pictures!

Yup. I've got some spare doors in the garage, so if anything's broken i'll be ransacking them :D

"...outside Tesco's last night..."

Ahem. It's "Tesco", not plural.

Grammar checker of Hampshire speaking.

Anyroadup, you didn't happen to be in Ikea Lakeside last night did ya? There was a bloke who resembled you closely, but I didn't have the courage to say "are you Nasty Man?".

This is way off my patch, but I was meeting someone to buy a bike from him. Lakeside is about halfway between us. So, I took the opportunity to see what a big Ikea is like - ours in Southampton seems a bit wee by comparison.

Erm - just realised - off topic. Sorry.

I'm from Gravesend, grammar isn't my strong point :D

Alas no, that wasn't me at Lakeside though. I was in B&Q and Asda in G'end, but couldn't venture as far as Thurrock, my card took enough of a battering!

I think "Tesco's" is possessive i.e. belonging to Tesco. For example "That is Tesco's trolley, you can't take it home" meaning trolley belonging to Tesco. Plural would be "Tescos" e.g. "There are 2 Tescos in Leeds".

:)

You're absolutely right mate. So, when you visit Tesco, you are not taking ownership. The name is an Anagram, unlike Sainsbury's, which is the name they take for themselves, because it belongs to the Sainsbury family. Tesco is the name of the store. You'll note on their adverts that they (as in the voiceovers like Jane Horrocks and Terry Wogan) always refer to themselves as "Tesco".

Found out the problem over the weekend, looks as though the motor bolts to the inner door skin with 4 bolts. Two of these had gone missing, one other decided to rip itself out of the doorskin and the fourth was wobbling about, ugh.

A bit of jiggery pokery later and it's all fixed. I can see how it happened though as the inner doorskin is very weak metal and flexes a hell of a lot when the window gets to the top/bottom of the runners. Something to keep an eye on peeps!

I have just noticed this on the drivers side door. My window "clunks" when you wind it down and when you wind it up the door flexes outwards both on the inside and the outside!

Might have to take it apart and have a look at it. Hopefully its easier to work on then the window on my MX-5 which I still haven't fixed (once its fixed it has to be sold and I dont want to :) ).

Hopefully just loose bolts and easy job

They are a bit of a pig to work on, but I would say 99% it's the bolts coming loose that's causing the problem.

Have been through the mill with this one too.

Yes a combination of a flexible inner skin support and loose bolts will lead to 'racking' as the window runs up and down out of alignment, this then develops the clunking noise as the window regulator starts it's final act before falling out completely.

The fix is to tighten the bolts and use threadlock - or superglue in my case to ensure they do not move again, if not, they will. Believe me I can now strip my door in less than 5 minutes.

But the real secret is to coat the rubber seals in the vertical runners in a silicon polish before fitting the door liner. I did this last time and have had no problems since.

I used a product by Auto Smart called 'Dash Dandy' which we use a lot at work. Though I'm sure any interior spray polish will do.
