My battery cage is becoming detached from the board in the fob, any one havean idea of how long my window of oppurtunity is to solder it with the battery taken out - before it loses its code?

And is it easy to re-calibrate it again if it goes wrong?

is going to a scrappy and finding a replacement fob not an option? i got 2 fobs for an old 200 i had from a scrappy and they only cost me a fiver and then £20 to get them programmed.

It's literally two blobs of solder, and we know from previous discussion that I've got solder skills! :)

atm I've a bit of card in there holding the cage against the board so it makes good contact.

On my coupe I had one fob and it went dead one evening around 7 and didnt get a new battery till 12 the next day,all was fine but might have been enough in the battery to keep the memory, personally I have read all scare stories about times but before reading them I never ever bothered how long I took to change batteries and have never had a problem

I figure on it only taking me 5 minutes to make it good.

I soldered mine as well....took about 10-15 minutes and after that the car still responded to the fob.
Remember: you can always unlock the immobilizer with the key as well (is in the manual).

First time at the garage after that I had my spare fob programmed, cost me nothing.

Yes it's a left and right code isn't it!?

I'll crack on with this tonight.

Yeah: you will look like a dork turning your key left / right / left / right multiple times but you will get a rewarding bleep on the horn when you get it done properly!
You do need the code though and that should be on a little key-hanger some where.

I have done it a few times now but always needed the manual on the roof for reference!

I had a second fob sitting in a drawer for months without a battery. I have just put a new one in it and it works fine. so as long as your soldering dons't take longer than about 4 months you should be fine.
