I have just been visiting that infectuous website that promotes retail therapy (eBay) and see that there is an interesting 200 BRM LE for sale. It is registered as S394 HCG (which doesn't appear to be a personal registration) although the car was not registered until 22nd August 2001, meaning it would technically be on a Y' registration. Does anyone know anything about this car or the story behind its late registration and why is sports an S' registration number? The quoted details all tally up when the registration number and make is put through the DVLA's Vehicle Data Check website.

Bizarre, I'd have to check the chassis number to see where in the run it appears but may be able to find it using the registration date. Will look later tonight when I'm home.

I'm also watching this car, anyone's on here or any further inside info on this car?

I believe the car is a genuine 200 BRM LE and has potentially been re-registered. This can occasionally occur when an application to first register a car with the DVLA's Local Office is cancelled before the car it taxed, insured, takes to the road and the car's allocated registration number is 'recognised'. This has happened with several cars (not BRMs) I am aware of where the application for new registration was cancelled before the number plate came officially into date-related existence, with the cars then being registered at a later date.

I am guessing that this is what has happened with this example - potentially a customer pulled out of the sale within a few days of the dealer making an application to register the Rover as a new car, and then cancelling the application. However, it does not explain why it sports an S registration which is a Hampshire plate. If I was interested in buying it, I would definetely ask the seller why it is on what appears to be a non-cherished related S' registration when it was officially in August 2001.

The car was registered in 1999 in belfast then came back to the uk and re-registered in 2001, hence the 2001 date of registration.
