60k service & cambelt

My BRM is a low millage 48k car thats now due for a service. The previous owner had the 48k service done at 25k because it was then 3 years old. According to the owners handbook, I think that I have to give it a 60k service next because of its age. This includes cambelt replacement and is a whopping £500 !!!

Is it really necessary to replace the cambelt at 48k just because of the car's age ?

Unfortunately, if I just have a standard service done then I invalidate the dealers warranty which came with the car.

Any thoughts ?

The belt will age over time even if it hasn't done the mileage. So it is possible that the belt will snap due to age. That is why they list it as 60 000 miles or 5 years. Belts may seem expensive but cheaper than bent valves etc.

Agreed, but £500 is a whopping price! cambelt service should come in at circa £2-300 tops!

They'd need a bloody fit receptionist to get £500 out of me for that!

Is it really 5 years when you're supposed to replace the cambelt ? My BRM was registered in 99, so its about 8 years old now (gulp!).

Ok, you've convinced me. However, i'll ring around some more garages first and try and beat £500.

yup, pretty sure it's 5. Mine had an engine change in 2002 so it's due this year :(

I did mine at 70.000, just to be sure. think it was around 600€
in 15.000 I need anotherone
