Hi guys,

I finally sorted my rusty exhaust, As I have a few toys I didnt want to go the whole hog on a stainless set-up so looked at the options for budget upgrades!

The rear box was very rotten and closer inspection revealed the joint to the centre section was missing! There was a section of pipe with exhaust clamps joining the two, so I needed a centre section as well!

A Pattern cat back centre section was sourced for a reasonable £50 from TMC at Hoo, I get trade price there so its around £70 retail,

A search around mainly on ebay produced quite a bit of choice and I eventually settled on a stainless rear box from 'grubby exhausts'!

At £90 delivered it proved to be a bargain as its well made, fitted perfectly to the pattern centre (bloody unusual!) and sounds nice although the 'crackle' has been lost from the exhaust note thats a bit dissapointing but I didnt want a noisey bad boy note either so its a good comprimise, a 2.5" tailpipe gives just the right look too.......

ive had at that listing on ebay for the exhaust and it doesnt say its for the 1.8, i dont know much mechanicly but it says it is 2" in diameter, i thought that the 1.8 exaust should be 2.25". or would the slight reduction in size not make much difference? ive been looking for a while now for the right exhaust but i havent had much luck in finding one i like

Yes I asked the question if it fitted a 1.8 and they didnt know! I thought I would give it a go as all the systems had the same part number in my Ti exhuast catalogue!

The main difference seems to be the 3 stud cat fitting on pre 2000 rovers

Theres seems to be no difference in performance, as I do spend time at the rolling road with my job Ill power run the car when I get the chance.

Im based in higham and dont get into gravesend that often!!

Have just checked my pattern exhaust centre and the pipe is 52mm / 2",

I currently have a s/s Janspeed back box with twin DTM style tailpipes which was on the car when I bought it, whilst the noise is OK I just don't like it, when I have the funds it will be going and this Grubby part looks the ideal replacement to get back to the original look.

Yeah they are pretty good, as the miles go on the sound has taken on a nice low growl!
