View Full Version : What classes as a newbie?
Hi All,
New to posting on the forum, but been in the wider online community for about 10 years now!
Not yet owned a BRM itself, but have owned two ZR's and a Vi from the R3 stable as well as a variety of other siblings in my time. Current steed is a ZT+160, but I miss the old R3s and toying with getting another to sit alongside the Zed...
It's also been a while since I've managed a Kent based pub dinner, followed by hours chatting in a freezing car-park at midnight gathering, but hope that means I've not been to forgotten (nudge, Adam).
Anyway, BRM is a great car and think it's amazing to see a number of enthusiasts keeping the spirit alive!

"Croeso" GT. It looks like you've got a serious MG/Rover addiction problem ;)
"what qualifies as a newbie" to Rover / BRM? Dunno, We've had 9 MGRs now and I'm still a noob - We havent' suffered any directly yet - how many HGF's have you had? :)
BTW - what's the 160? have you got a 1.8t under the bonnet or a KV6?
Around the block? What a cheek! :D
HGFs, well...
1995 Rover 111 (98-01, 60k miles driven, 86k on clock) - No HGF, faultless.
1975 MG BGT (99-01) - No HGF, goddamn kingpins!
1998 Ford Escort (01-01) - No HGF, but many other issues.
2001 MG ZR105 (01-02, 15k miles driven) - No HGF, tore drivers seat bolster.
1994 Rover 214 SEi (02-04, 30k miles driven, 115k on the clock) - No HGF, no real issues.
2004 MG ZR+ 105 (04-07, 35k miles driven) - No HGF, just the stupid deadlock noises. Best car in fleet.
1997 Rover 200 Vi (07-09, 30k miles driven, 200k on clock) - bought with HGF, DIY repair, blew HGF again after faulty earth killed battery leaving the dyno powering my headlights on a long drive back in the dark.
2002 MG ZT+ 160(Turbo) (09-present, 25k driven, 95k total) - blown HGF in 1 week due to shoddy repair by previous owner that left my rad leaking. Crap warranty repair saw sam HGF and rad issues repeat after 12 months, dealer repaired this time with new head!
That enough info? :D
My last ZR may have only been a 105 but other than the rapid fire noises from the deadlocking in bad weather, it ran faultlessly over many years and miles. A well spec'd car in Nightfire Red, red ABC lights, XPower exhaust from new, all the optionals except air-con and only matrix seats, but they looked ok on the car.
I miss the Vi too, bought it as a cheap banger during a house purchase to free up the cash flow, went for almost 3 years, lots of fun. Age and a less than perfect condition saw me having to give up at 200k.
Definitely still a newbie as there's no BRM in that stable of horses :D
