took the BRM for an MOT today all was fine apart from the emissin test :(
I made sure it was hot when i took it ;)
First idle test Co2 should be less than 0.30 and i got 0.61
2nd fast idle < 0.30 i got 0.58
Normal idle should be less than 0.50 i got 0.91
So it looks like i need a new cat :( i had it moted last year before putting the full jansped system on.
I got my sports cat and manifold 2nd hand from someone on themgzr forum I think and the cat back bits I got new from janspeed.
The only thing I can think of is it might be a sports cat from a 1.4 ZR thinking back I know the manifold and other bits are the same 1.4 to 1.8 but mabe the cats are different. Should have look into it more :(
Anyone recomend a good place to get a new sports cat or should I just go direct to janspeed again
Doh, sorry to hear that mate.
I went direct to Janspeed for my sports cat, can dig the part number out for you if you need it?
Can you look into it further? It might be something cheaper than having to replace the cat?

I normally try an 'italian tune' to sort co readings like that!
A good thrash up the motorway before testing! seriously the cat can take time to get hot enough sometimes,
And leaving it idling slows the warmup process,
I have sorted quite a few cars with emissions problems and the number 1 culprit is the lambda sensor my local supplier does rover ones for around £40, (done quite a few since that problem with supermarket fuel!)

it was quite hot oil temp was 99oC when i put the exhaust on last year i put a new lambda sensor in mabe i could try it how do you know if it's that? the sports cat i got was 2nd hand and done about 12,000 miles i have added another 10,000 since then i know it should last longer than this. adam does your car pass by much or is it very close?
2 years ago I was 0.02% under, last year I was 0.01% under, got the next MOT tomorrow and to be frank I'm a bit worried. Will let you know how she goes though....

From Gary87, I had the same problem recently, and mine failed its MOT on emmision readings, and was told I needed the engine management system sorting and setting up. Took the car to a rover garage and it passed with no problem as quite simply the CAT was not hot enough to function properly.
Well she passed her MOT today. Got a slight brake judder from the front but its nothing I didn't know about so a new disc is needed, but onto the important stuff the emissions.......
Fast Idle
CO Level (Pass <=0.20) - Result 0.20%
HC Level (Pass <=200) - Result 39ppm
Lambda (Pass 0.97 - 1.03) - Result 1.02
Normal Idle
CO Level (Pass <=0.30) - Result 0.17%
So not bad all in all :mml:

Had the re-test today and..............
PASS :)
I had a new stainless steel sports cat welded in by my local powerflow exhaust dealer
total cost was £180 instead of the £280 if i had ordered a cat from janspeed.
the test
BASIC EMISSIONS TEST
Fast Idle
CO Level (Pass <=0.20) - Result 0.17%
HC Level (Pass <=200) - Result 27ppm
Lambda (Pass 0.97 - 1.03) - Result 0.99
Normal Idle
CO Level (Pass <=0.30) - Result 0.07%
That's the basic test they do on all cars but if it fails the basic test it will go into a 10 min test designed for you model of car.(the test I had last time) For the rover 200 1.8vvc these are the max levels so you still have a bit left for next year Adam :)
Fast Idle
CO Level (Pass <=0.30)
HC Level (Pass <=200)
Lambda (Pass 0.95 - 1.09)
Normal Idle
CO Level (Pass <=0.50)
That's good to know! :mml:
