I can't help with the problem Al - mainly because I haven't a clue what I was supposed to be looking for but ..... I don't know what the vid sounds like for anyone else but for me it sounded a little like trippy minimalistic German techno.

Yeah havent got anything good at work to record it with...the left hand pulley is moving back and forth like its warped, everything behind seems to be running true, center bolt wasnt as tight as it should have been but is now,the noise is like a over tight belt

Mine don't sound or look like that!
I have no idea either Al.

It does indeed sound like some freaky kind of German techno...might be the new hit for X-mas.
OT: doesn't look like it's supposed to do that. I hope it's only the pulley that needs changing and not the bearing I suspect to be behind it.

Just had the pulley off and cleaned everything ,but its fine ,theres not much to seat and is all located with a keyslot and roll pin, looks like the whole cam is moving slightly.
well its going to be a tentative drive to Birmingham

Rust is my foe too, also due to petrol prices/rubbish poorly paid job. Thats my other foe. But my door and wing are being changed this weekend. Bit late, but not too late if I can sell enough stuff to get down to Halfway House.

Ive had this before on my old vvc lump. Take the ehaust pulley of and check if the locating pin is crushed or dis-shaped, also check that the actual pulley for cracks and the locating hole is as it should be

Did have the pulley off the roll pin looked ok but di look like maybe it was in to far and perhaps not gripping the pulley as it should I may phone my friend tonight see if he has any roll pins at work and maybe I can do something Friday night, pity I didnt find this a week earlier

That's how my first engine went. the pulley buckled off the cam and destroyed the engine :(

I have a set of front pulleys that you can have if you want :smile2:
Can drop them to you at Pride of Longbridge if you want them.

Cheers Bud but I have Adam bringing one to the service station we are meeting at,going to take it off this morning and spin it in the stand drill and see if I can get an idea if the bolt or pulley is warped
That's not a bad idea Al. Let me know if you need anything else, I'm sure I can sort you out!

Cheers bud, theres nothing else I can really do,if its more major than the pulley or something simple on the front then iam not sure if its worth pulling the rocker cover off, that will leave me hoping a local motor factor has another gasket or iam stuck at work
The rocker coover gasket isn't too bad, you can re-use that no problem. Ideally you'd need some sealant though but it's not a major problem getting to the cams.

not the greatest test in the world and again forgive me and dodgy camera, allow for the fact I may not have the pulley perfectly centered ...its the up and down movement I was looking for,at full speed on the drill theres a slight movement,as it slows down its more pronounced, but you do have to allow for the bench drill,my judgment is that the pulley is warped and I will be heading to meet Adam with a new pulley which I will pop on before the journey up to Longbridge, just got to do one more half hour journey as it is

that pulley has a nice chunk of metal missing too, this will no doubt be in contact with your cam belt alan.........

Behind the pulley and locking it in position seems to be what looks like a roll pin where the hell do you get that from (although mine looks ok).
a bloke on .org showed me this picture of his :(

Item number 10, http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001201
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-PA112150
You should be able to get these from any motor factures or halfords.
Al, I chatted to the old man and he thinks it could be the roll pin pushed in too far (this can happen as they're quite short). Have you tried pulling the pin out with a good pair of pliers and re-locating it?

Just had a battle royal at home with not many tools, the roll pin was level with the shoulder of the cam if you understand what I mean ,where the pulley goes over the pulleys twice as thick as the lug it sits on (very poor design) the roll pin was level so after much skin breaking I brought it out level with the pulley, its seems to sit much better and couldnt be moved at all.
Answer in short though its still moving around ,maybe warped pulley maybe the damage is already done and a bearings failing that the cam passes through

Dont think it did but will find out tomorrow when its off again to fit another pulley if you have got one dowel/roll pin the same size it may help in the near future.
keep fingers crossed......Right iam off to wash the car now
Here you go Al, just for interest we spun your old pulley up on the lathe and it was definitely warped so we decided to measure the run-out. The measurements are in thou (thousands of an inch) but at the outer edge this equates to approximately 1.4mm!!!!!!

That is interesting to see, funny enough Techdozen on .org had the same problem with the pulley causing the center bolt to undo itself.so guess this is a week area that people should keep an eye on
