View Full Version : What will you replace your BRM with?
May be a long way off for some of us (at 1 year and counting it's the longest I've kept a car since 2003!)... just wandering what people were planning on replacing theirs with when the time eventually arises.
Been contemplating getting an E36 M3 (amongst skyline's, 200sx's, RX-7's and Land Rovers!) in the middle/near future. Everytime I see the BRM in a reflection though, just gotten that thing about it.
What are people next steps?

Ford Focus RS is tempting me, but I honestly enjoy the BRM so much I wont change until I'm bored.

I tried a new FIAT Bravo 1.4 T-Jet Sport last weekend. 150bhp, 0-60 in 8.5, 131mph, goes like stink, does 32 mpg, and at 70 mph she's only spinning at 3000rpm thanks to the six-speed gearbox. The ride is superb and handling is as good as the BRM. Very impressive.

I'm luck, bought the BRM as a toy,so its garaged up until dry weekends! My daily car is a Ford Fiesta 1.4TDCI, which handles brilliantly, havent had a go yet in an ST but if you dont need a diesel (sadly i do 35K a year so do ) I would think these would be very good.

The guy that sold me my BRM bought a ford Focus RS. Sorry Jon it is one hell of a car but not for me. He just had new brake pads and disks it cost him just under a grand, now thats too rich for me.

Yes, the one I drove was exactly as the picture, Maranello red with the optional 18" alloys and climate control They're nice looking, low and sleek, not like the Focus which is the same height as an MPV! I like the way the BRM sits, low and purposeful.

Well it'd have to be something old and American, either a Mustang, Camaro or Charger. But that's not about to happen till I win the lottery so the BRM is staying put for now :D
I definitely wouldn't replace it with something else fwd. Rover made a good fun car with this one and that's what hatchbacks are all about to me. Sure there's better out there, but why bother?
Which makes me think I should keep it as a shopping trolley, although being walking distance to work, I don't need one! Head vs heart no doubt...
Still, gonna be at least a few months yet, so I can ignore any potential dilemmas and keep enjoying it
Keep her Dom. I agree that it is one of the best fwd drives available. All it needed to make it perfect was a slightly faster engine and tightening up of the suspension.
Compared to other "hot hatches" i've driven i'd rate it amongst the best.

I have forced my girlfriend to buy a 97 mini cooper 1.3 mpi with sportpack.
And I can regulary take dads ZT 260 out for a ride.
For my work I drive on daily base cars like SL, CLS, S, ML, G, GL...
And some close friends have fiesta st and focus st
So I don't really want something else, the brm works for me
but I also think that a brand new clio RS will work. or the future ford verve...
But for now, I just want to restyle the brm to my taste and needs. If I want something else, I just take it...
But I also want to put a 1.4 turbo in the mini...

Thats what i'm looking into, Mini Turbo conversion!! Thinking of building a metro turbo engine, then buying a mini to put it in!! been looking on ebay for an engine, your looking at between £300-£1000 for a complete engine!!

My future plan is to keep the BRM untill I can afford a second car. I will prob then go back to an MX-5, which I will (tastfully) kit up, drop on 17"s, improve suspension, breaks and clutch, then add a supercharger!
Once that is done (should cost around 10kish for everything) I will follow Adam with his coil overs and chewy with his T16 engine!
Then I will be a happy man!
in my final year at uni tho so wont be for a while yet unfortunately!

Originally I only bought my BRM as a temporary run around for six months, while I looked for a car to replace my super high milleage (202k) BMW 5 series. But now I love driving the BRM so much I'll keep her for at least a year, probably two.
My next car will either be a Lotus elise S1 or a vauxhall VX220.
In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy my BRM to the max !
