T Series Turbo (have a look at mgrover.org website)
or a VW Group 20V Turbo

That looks like a nice option but by the time I'd have saved for it the BRM will be a dusty pile of iron oxide.:oldtimer:
Getting over 200bhp is going to be expensive whatever you do, unless you're willing to do a lot of the work yourself.
The T-series option is the cheapest, but my personal opinion is that I hate them in the bubbles as you're ruining the handling with all that weight in the front.
Totaly agree adam. My mate has been trying to fob his uprated T series off on me for ages.
I just get laughed at when i try to talk about the balance of the car, and its not all about power. The k is a very light engine even for todays standards, i remember being able to carry my 160 lump minus gearbox across the workshop by myself.
Ok the power to weight does balance itself out with a T, but also makes the car very front end heavy, which is never good for nimble handling considering the back end is light as a feather.
Dont get me wrong id still love to build one, ive seen some awesome ZR T powered drag cars, but the only thing they would good at was a straight line.

dont ruin a perfectly good coupe turbo to only put it in a bubble .
ive seen to many coupe turbos been ruined due to this .

LMAO Was in my younger days, beer and pies guarantee i couldn't do it again!
I've ruined £500's worth of carpet storing engine parts in the house, i needed a clean place to rebuild a head, turns out the living room floor wasn't that place. Who Knew? :nugget:

I'll let the cat out of the bag - ZS180 really isn't much faster than a BRM - hardly anything in it. The BRM feels a lot more chuckable around the bends too - you can really feel the weight of the KV6 up front.
Don't get me wrong, if I had to get rid of one, the BRM would lose out (sorry guys - but only as my ZS is LPG converted) bevause the KV6 has got a fantastic character to it and my bum's moulded the leather seat for the last 110k miles to my shape :smile2:
Here's another secret - My WRX really isn't that much faster than my ZS180 (I'm not too convinced it is at all). It feels so modern in relation to our ageing fleet of MGRovers that it also has no "character" (I think this also means that everything on the Subaru works and won't break :smile2::chair:). Again - it's down to the extra weight.
BRM - 1080kgs, 143bhp, 134hp/t
ZS180 - 1235kg, 177bhp, 143hp/t
WRX - 1485kg, 230bhp, 155hp/t
With the ZS as the benchmark, the BRM is about 6% less on power to weight and the Subaru is some 8% more . . . . and another thing - after being in either of the MGRs, the throttle response of the WRX is 'soft' and 'delayed' when pushing on, but worse than that, there's a little delay when lifting off the throttle too - and I really don't like that!
While I agree with Martin's "buy a faster car" comment, there must be something quite special about building your own "improved" version of a manufacturer's model :D

Many people have built faster bubbles but doesn't mean they are better or improved. Some exceptions obviously TDR BRM :D

I'm glad to here that about the scooby :-) always wanted one but can't really justify it.

Me too. I also really fancy a genuine early 90's R8 420 GSi Turbo - along with a 600 ti, probably the ulitmate factory produced sleeper.

Mine's averaging about 26mpg at the moment:ras:.
It's still a great car, the engine is torquey and absolutely relelntless above 2k rpm to red line and I suppose it is a true hot hatch - painless, easy daily driver with light clutch, steering, brakes, gear shift - it has enough 'toys' (for me anyway) with EW, AC and it seems Subaru have at last discovered current audio technology by installing a 6-stack CD player and auxilliary input jack for your ipod thingy (still a step behind - bo USB here and wife's 2007 WRX saloon had a cassette player in it:weirdo:) These things can make it a bit boring to drive - it just does everything competently. It does feel quite tall and wobbly though (unlike my wife's 2007 car - that corners quite flat, which in turn is unlike the ZS - that seems almost completely flat around the bends) - and that's the difference between the cars - the Subarus do accelerate quicker than the V6 MG, but the ZS carries more speed through the corner.
As far as 'bang for buck' - the WRX is still very hard to beat.
9 months old, 2400 miles with 12 months tax (that hurts too at over £400) for £15500 - still a hell of a lot of money and I can only get it as I have one of those jobs where I'm lucky enough to get an 'allowance' paid which covers most of my costs. I could have had a diesl VW and had some spare cash . . . . . . . . . . . . but where's the fun in that!
If I went for an ST Focus or a VRX astra, I'd have paid a little more or had something with an extra 10k or 20k on the clock . . . . and while I know both of those are great cars, there's one pretty much around every corner. I did consider a Golf GTi and a VRs Octavia . . . and really fancied a Scirroco, but the cost of these was just too high.
So, Nobrainer, I'd still thoroughly recommend one, but if you want faster, you'd need an STi . . . . . . or get a PPP on one of these (a de-cat, back box and re-map is tempting though:lovers:)

i can see the power to weight of a brm but what other cars around about the same??????? i.e. race wise based on stats what would the brm's competition be????? and what would it be ale to beat or keep up with?

if you want a faster brm strip it out lighter is best option but not practical with family. think the only thing they suffer from is torque . poor . power sells cars torque wins races ha .
