Well it's back to Harewood hillclimb for me and Roxy this weekend, Saturday and Sunday.
Not touched her since doing the Silverstone Sprint at MG Live so hoping all is well. Should be as she has been reliable to date and not had to do a thing to her. Hopefully not just given her the kiss of death.
Looks like weather is a bit changeable so probably have to run on wets, which in my class means the same as drys so no need to change tyres :smile2:
Going to try a different driving technique this weekend, see if I can ignore the red mist and not just go for it and end up going into corners to quick. Was much easier when I was rallying in the forests as lines weren't as important.
If anybody fancies a trip to the hillclimb when we're competing pm me as we get a couple of extra entry tickets each event.

Cheers Alan.
Think I should go to bed now as up at 5.30 to get ready and head up to Harewood, don't want to be falling asleep at the wheel!
We're back at Harewood on 17/18 September.

Glad to hear Roxy is performing well (and reliably) She stood for a month or two in the winter through minus 16 temps and still started first time, a far cry from the Roxy I brought 2 years ago who used to take three attempts to start when it rained.
Alan and the other people who worked on her to get her back on her wheels did a superb job, I'm sure she's got lots of miles and oomph left in her yet. :)
Would love to come and see her in action one day, can you drop me a direct e-mail when your next about so I can come and cheer you on? x

Got time down below 76s at 75.48 on the Sunday, Saturday a bit of wash out with showers most of the day.
However I was more competitive in the wet on Saturday than when it dried out. Also checking the split times on the hill against a guy in a MX5 who times are in the 73seconds I lose out to him on the last two sections which is the main part of the climb.
Also at the speed trap on the last section of the hill he's hitting around 66 mph and I'm only getting 60 mph. Think I need to give Roxy a good checking over before the next one and see if I can make sure she's pushing all the horses she should be.
Have put 72mm TB on and carbon induction kit on (although still using the standard point of air intake) so could do with a performance exhaust, anybody suggest anything that's not too expensive or anybody got one for sale?

Blimey 72mm I heard 56 is too big, though I know nothing about the carbon induction kit,one old rule I always believed though is that if your getting it in youve got to burn it and get it out,so yes you need to go for a performance exhaust

Well Roxy did well on Saturday posting a personal best on the last run of the day a 74.04 so the times are coming down.
Sunday not so good with very heavy rain after the first timed run which we did a 74.24 so had no chance of trying to improve on that.
The one good thing from this weekend is that Roxy and I are more competitive in class in the wet than in the dry, someone did say that a wet track is a good way of making cars more equal.
Hopefully then over winter I can give Roxy a proper check over and ensure she is giving her all before the start of the 2012 season, also need to get her through an MOT soon.

Nice the times are heading in the right direction,is it the car or you,or a bit of both

I'm guessing me as not done anything to Roxy, but I'm getting tighter on the lines and being more accurate as to where to put the power down or brake.
Need to try and do something to Roxy though as the main point we're loosing out on is on the steepest part of the hill, I'm guessing that at 102k on the clock some of those horses have escaped from the K series!
On the steepest part there is a speed trap, I'm hitting 62mph at the most while a standard Nissan Almera Gti is hitting 67mph. On the rest of the hill I'm just in front at about three of the five splits.
I could also look at loosing some weight

Yes Ive driven roxy and she did always seem to be a bit down on power compared to other BRMs,Iam not sure where it is,but I would go over it with a compression tester and have a look to see if all the timings are correct on both belts, both me and KG (a older member ) could get the better of her

The Almera is a 2.0 litre with slighty more torque and a higher top speed but the BRM is .4 sec faster 0 to 60. So i would say you should be at least matching it.
How standard do you have to keep the engine? There are a few little things you could do to get a few more horses....

That's one of the jobs to do during the winter break.

That's what I was thinking so need to have a look at Roxy over the winter break.

Engine is fairly free in the class we are in, main restriction to me at the moment is funds.
Only things I have done to her at the moment is 52mm TB and an induction set up, which does need a better cool air feed as at present is piped into the standard inlet in the right hand corner of the engine bay (as you look at it from the front of the car).
What are your ideas Adam?
Well one small thing, time consuming but free, is to grind out the welds inside the OE manifold. It's pretty shocking in there as standard.
Then maybe look for a better profile exhaust cam, Mike Satur does one, would give a few more ponies without breaking the bank and is relatively easy to install.

How did this go? I missed out as I was cooped up in hospital being Birth Partner for my friend. A word to the wise, if anyone asks you to watch them have a baby...say no.
Unless unlike me you have a stron stomach and don't mind standing up for 18 hours straight. :(
