Hi Folks, I removed the upper cam belt cover to inspect the new belts & tensioner etc, and decided it looks quite good with it removed - it also sounds quite nice, you get a good 'whining' of the belts at speed. Bit childish I know.

Question is, is it unwise to leave it off? The only problem I could see is a bit of grit or something getting into the belts somehow, although I suspect it would just bounce off. Or is the cover more to stop trapped fingers / loose clothing etc in the workshop?

Cheers!
Ben

Most race engines have them left off. It does look a lot nicer.

As long as you keep an eye on them to make sure they are kept clean they should be OK.

You do have a risk that road debris could damage the bel but it is unlikely.

i wouldnt personally recommend it , the covers are obviously there for a reason not only to stop fingers and the like getting caught up but as said before to stop dirt and debris from contaminating the belts...i usually remove mine now then just to see all is well but make sure i put it back on correctly..:hi:

No worries, I've put it back on after feeling a bit guilty!
