Hi All,

My recently purchased BRM has done according to MOT and Speedo 126,500. Is it remotely possible to have done that mileage without a head gasket being replaced at some point?

Being a rover i do doubt it myself after my experience with my previous rover. With no service history is there anything obvious i could see in the engine bay to indicate it has been replaced?

Its done well at that milage, wonder if the engine number tallies with the log book,as could be a chance at some point its been changed, not really a way of telling if the HG has been done, previous failures can sometimes leave the expansion bottle looking a bit like it was inflated, extra clean head if done recently and was cleaned up after a skim, apart from that Iam not sure if you can spot the head saver shim between the head and block

You can spot if a head saver shim has been used. If so a black tongue should be peeking out between block and head right underneath the exhaust manifold.

Spoken like a Rover owner of many years . . . and how all Rover owners should be . . . . . :clap2:

Just 'keep an eye on the levels' every now and again.
