View Full Version : Rover 200 BRM LE
I needed to get something bigger as my mum is ill and regularly needs for me to take her to hospital appointments and to see her family in London, my car is a little small as a family car.
I was looking for an Astra, which I have now found and will be collecting on the 24 Nov, which means, unfortunately, I must sell my BRM soon!
The previous owner was an elderly old man, who could not afford to get the head gasket replaced, I bought it off the garage and paid for the work that had been completed plus money for the car.
I have reciepts that go back to 2003 with the majority of the work detailed below (This also includes routine services and maintenance work such as tyres, brake pads etc).
Please take a look at the link for more pictures of the BRM.
Here is a link to the advert, if it is easier for you to refer it for details:

Rover 200 BRM LE
92,800 miles
MOT Jul 2012
Tax 31 Dec 2011
MAINTENANCE:
Jul 11:
Updated MLS Head gasket fitted (which the K Series engines were vulnerable to until a few years ago when Landrover produced the MLS - Multi Layer Steel gasket for them).
Service: Castrol Magnatec Semi Synthetic oil, plus Bosch Oil and Air filter.
Jan 11:
Magnecor 8.5mm high tension ignition leads (the original ones were potentially 10 years old).
NGK Laser Platinum Spark plugs
Sep 09:
Clutch kit replacement
Oct 07:
Top end engine rebuild:
Replacement of Pistons, Cylinder liners plus all gasket (Inc exhaust and dual inlet manifold)
After market parts:
Janspeed muffler (Rover exhaust systems are discontinued).
Janspeed custom 2 into 1 manifold down pipe extension.
I bought it in Jul 2011 from a Rover specialist where it was left due to a head gasket bill. At the time I was not working and needed a cheaper to run sports car.
Have got an Astra which I shall be collecting at the end of Nov 11.
Bodywork Condition: very smart.
Washed twice a week, polished every weekend and waxed monthly.
There are no dents, scrapes or key scratches.
Unfortunately, rust has started on rear the arces.
Leather interior is in excellent condition with no stains or tears.
I'm asking £850 but open to fair offers.

Hiya guys,
I'm open to any sensible offer.
The car sincerely is a smart example if you take a look at the link there are pictures to get an idea.
I need a quick sale solely due to a limitation of funds and need to collect the Astra very soon as I am currently coming up short.

Also please leave feedback. Those who have looked, must have opinions or feedback! :)
Any sensible offer would not be rejected, including figures in the 7s ballpark range possibly others.

Nice car there buddy, rust in the usual places, and used mileage may mean it's a little dear. I reckon you put it in for your bottom price it will go. It's easier to say £700 no offers then put punters off at £850. Good luck with the sale though :)
Thanks, Gazzati,
That is what I was concerned about!
I was hoping people would have more faith the fact it had the top end rebuilt, but I guess that is wishful thinking! :S
I've had so many learners at work trying to offer me £500!!! :O (Followed by remarks such as "Its a Rover!"). It is a BRM edition, you should consider yourselves pretty privileged to see one!! Prejudice! :/
As Gazzeti suggested.
My bottom figure is £700, I can't really take any offers on that!
Drove other half's Focus to the Mechanics last night and was soo pleased to jump in the BRM after! Her Focus just doesn't have the same feeling to it and really high up!!

Unfortunately that is the view of many. The uneducated will just see a Rover, and not a limited edition hot hatch. Most of them won't even know what BRM stands for lol. £700 is more then a fair price, the only issue for many now, is timing......is that 4 weeks to xmas
Excellent point!
I've got lucky with the Astra I'm buying as the owner needs a larger car as his wife is expecting in a few months, so got it for a fair price thanks to Christmas! :)
I'll change the GumTree advert once I finish work at 7 and pick other half up from work as her car is off the road!
Amazed me how much better the BRM is for feel and gears etc compared with her Ford Focus (which is a 54 plate on 40,000 miles!). Ironically I used to love her Focus for drive but definitely appreciate the sportier design and suspension of my BRM.
I don't suppose you know of anybody who may be interested in the BRM? An early Christmas present perhaps!!
Think you for your time and feedback, Gazzati

I insure mine on a traders policy, £500 a year. I sell a couple of cars as a little side earner and it covers me as a part time trader. Only bummer is no windscreen cover :(

Hi Gazzati,
I have been looking for a cheap traders policy. If you don't mind me asking what insurers have you got yours with?
Thanks

Hi Mark, mine is with DNA insurance as they where the same price as the year before. The year before was with choice quote http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=choice+quote&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CE4QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.choicequote.co.uk%2F&ei=cwjZTsm7PMe3hQet0uDFDg&usg=AFQjCNFwhp1-NRhWbII-EezmIlo3rOTqKw
I have had traders policies for a while, but beware, there are some pitfalls,
1) You don't earn no claims
2) You don't get windscreen cover
But the advantages are
1) I have no limit on the amount of cars I can insure
2) Cheaper premiums (I save more then the price of a windscreen each year)
3) I can add named drivers at no extra cost
4)Includes U.k sports and performance and prestige (not imports)
Metroevo, I do live in a sh1thole area, so yes my premiums are higher, but no one would touch my motor round here! Reason is, they go to nice areas like yours to pinch em ;) I have lived here for 6 years and never (touch wood) had an issue, but before my last relationship breakdown when I lived in a nice area with a big flash house and car, neighbours where always complaining of thefts and vandalism, so I don't see any relevant connection between car and area when pricing my premium? I think the phrase is "don't sh1t on your own doorstep"? So with this lifelong phrase if all the scroats live in my area, I should get the cheaper premium?
Back to the traders policy though, I do it for convenience, due to the number of cars going through my hands each year, it's cheap, it's simple and gives me the cover I need :)
*EDIT* Just for research purposes, I have just done a quote from my last (nice area) address, and it only come out £60 cheaper, but with less cover. So maybe age is a factor? I'm 30 with over ten years no claims behind me and they still want £441 with a desirable postcode, and by desirable, the Duke of Westminster shares the same one ;)

Yep a 49 year old with 6 years no claims and TPFT was £450 ish and that was because I moved just outside London at my old address in London it was £200 more.
The biggest pisser was that I changed from a broker 2 years ago to finding my own insurance when the firm closed,I had not claimed for over 20 years, but the most no claims I could have were 5 years :(
