View Full Version : Sunroof woes! Help please!

Hi Folks, with all this wet weather I have noticed that the area around the drivers door A pillar to sunroof headlining is very damp, and has been dripping very slightly onto the front seat.

The car sits slightly angled downhill to the right, and when it's raining, there's always a small pool of water on the front right hand edge of the sunroof. I reckon this has been seeping in slowly, and not draining as efficiently as it ought to, hence damp headlining and dripping.

Questions are:

1. Should I change the sunroof sealing strip? It looks as if it has seen better days. If so, is it possible to change it without removing or adjusting the sunroof in any way?

2. How can I check that the sunroof tray drain tubes are not blocked?

3. When it rains hard I get small drops of water inside the car next to the rear seatbelt 'holes' where the belt disappears into the parcel shelf surround area, near the window catches. Do other people experience this as well?
I suspect the rear windows don't seal brilliantly by the nature of their design.

Many thanks for any advice!

Cheers v much,
Ben

Mine was changed after about 2 years, completely replaced the entire sunroof assembly under warranty though. I believe you can just obtain the rubber and fit that.

No idea apart from maybe delicately pouring water into them and seeing if it drips out of the bottom of the car somewhere??

Never had this problem. Did have water in the spare wheel well but that was coming in from underneath suprisingly enough.

The rear windows do leak slightly, especially if you open them a lot. I had this problem on the 25 and never open the ones on the brm.

I have yet to see a 200 that is totally dry in the boot.

The seal fitted to the glass is not available as a seperate item it only comes with a new glass @ £216 + vat.

There is a thread on here or the zr site about renovating the seal.

Thanks for the replies. Gulp!!

Looks like a spot of silicone is required then!

I just took the seal off the glass and cleaned up the rusty edge on the glass frame, then i re-seated the seal with black sealent and since then it has never leaked.

When i first got the car i had water in the footwell, boot, rear seats and roof!!

Once i cleaned the rust off the glass frame and re-seated the seal i have had no leakage!!

Its really easy to do and does work!!
