alright fellas, just signed up for the site because ive always loved the r200 especially the brms.
Im just baught myself a r200vi (1.8vvc obviously) and wanted some advice on what what modifications people have done to theyre engines, and for what gains really.
Its standard atm,but i also own a r214si (1.4 16v kseries) which has the usual stuff, 56mm t.b decat, sportex bb, full prospeed custom carbon inclosed induction kit(looks similar to the bmc one) with samco hosing from t.b to filter then from there to gap between radiator and gearbox, pointing at the floor.
What i would like though is if someone could give me a rough bhp and torque figure of someone whos done a similar setup.
Im looking at swapping all the performance parts off the 1.4 onto the vi.
Also is there anything you would advise not to fit as ive heard that certain vvcs dont like such things like the 56mm t.b and decat,is thsi true?
any help would be apreciated.
chris

Firstly welcome to the site matey! :D

200VI is a great car, such a sleeper and proper Q-car stylee.

Onto the mods. The vvc is a funny devil and the most tried and tested route found to provide the best gains is (from the front back)...

Induction - Performance panel filter or Induction kit, such as BMC CDA, PiperX Viper or the daddy the ITG Maxogen.
52mm Throttle body, the 56mm is too big really and can create flat spots in the power curve.
Upgraded HT leads and plugs.
Full exhaust system with sports cat, decat doesn't suit the vvc unfortunately. I personally have a full Janspeed system, pricey but well worth it in my opinion.

With the full Janspeed system, a PiperX Viper induction kit and the 52mm TB I saw 127bhp at the wheels, cant remember the torque figure unfortunately.

Hope some of that helps.

yeah thats really helpfull thanx
the prospeed induction one ive got was originally on a brm which i found in the scrappy(was a very sad sight tbh!) and snapped it up for thirty quid, but i believe the owner paid in the region of about 150quid for it.
there is alos a full prospeed stainless exhaust on it which has had two/ twin pipes made to fit(same as a zr160 but on both sides of the car),im really considering going back to the scrappy to see if its still there.

You won't get any benefit from the 56mm TB over the standard plastic one apart from the lack of sticking. It's much bigger that the bore of the VVC plenum and will just cause turbulence on the intake. a 52mm on will be a little better as it will give you a better match (still not perfect)

cheers nightfire, cant find any t.bs for less than 100notes tho,the 56mm can be had for peanuts, but as you said,it doesnt match the vvc plenum properly:sad:
just a quick question then, when rover say the vi has 148bhp(or about that!) do they mean at the flywheel then as adam said he only had 127bhp at the wheels.
?
(got to laugh! i say "only" about adams bhp,but im driving a weedy 1.4 which only puts out 103bhp, on a good day!!)

Yup, its 145ps at the flywheel. On a rolling road they'll give you a flywheel figure but thats more of a guesstimate so its usually better to take the wheel figure.

cool, cheers adam, sorted a few things outt on the two cars 2day,put the old pipercross back on the 214 so the inclosed filter kit is now ready to fit to the vi,will have to consider getting it r.r`ed in the future, starting to shop for a 52mm t.b now too. might try and convince my fiance to buy me one for my b.day or something!!
