I've got a major problem, i've been working on the rust on the BRM bonnet. I've sorted the rust, primed the bonnet and then resprayed it in Rover Brooklands Green (from Halfords).
Unfortunately the new paint is a much lighter shade of green than the rest of the bonnet and I now have a light front half and really dark back half of the bonnet.
Has anyone had this problem before or have any suggestions on how to fix it.
I've still got to treat the rust to the arches and don't want the car to be all different shades............
Help please

Confusingly, I think there are 2 shades of brooklands green - there was a colour called brooklands green used in 60's / 70's ish on MG B, Midget and probably other BL / Rover group products.
The Brooklands green of the BRM is a different (darker) shade and as far as I know unique to the BRM (could be wrong on that).
Halfords say they can mix paint to match a colour so maybe they could mix you up custom batch. Or I'm sure other paint suppliers could do this too.
Let me know how you get on as I'm thinking of going down this route too - got rust bubbles starting to appear on arches and I don't want to let them get too bad.

I had the same problem I had to get it mixed at a local paint supplier as the Halfors one is the wrong shade. I also think it is a different paint code.

Thank you for your comments I have arranged for a batch to be mixed so hopefully I can match the original colour.
Thanks again

Yup, Halfords 'off the shelf' paint range is way out of date; they still do a whole batch of old BL colours that have long since gone out of circulation, as you have found out by buying the off the shelf Brooklands green, which is for mid-seventies BL cars and is nothing like the brooklands green on the BRM.
As loing as you have the paint code they will be able to mix up the right shade for you

i had a can mixed up with the paint code from car and this is still a shade to light!! but still better than letting any rust get worse by the day!!

when i had mine mixed it was perfect. you have to decide which of the 2 shades you have for that year car. it also depends on what coulour primer you use.

Rust? On a Rover? Never.

yes theres definately two different shades of paint
the original brm`s had there own shade of british racing green, so its probably only a colour on the BRM
had mine mixed up at the paintshop and it was near enough perfect match
some of the paintshop suppliers will mix up an aerosol can for you
think theres actually one on ebay doing it
one other thing , make sure your getting enough paint on
if your not getting enough coats the primer underneath will lighten up the paint as well
Pedantic-ness coming in here I'm afraid Dan, its Brooklands Green on the BRM ;)
