Hi Folks, 1 week in and the Janspeed system is brilliant. One observation however - it's all remaining very shiny underneath, but the triangular-ish 'bracing' section of metal (don't know what it's called, looks like a strengthening piece) linking the underside of the back box and the main pipe itself is covered in what looks like rust!

I was hoping the entire thing is made from stainless steel - has anyone else noticed this please?

Not a problem as such, but a bit annoying if it is actually rust.

There are varying grades of stainless steel, 304 can from memory discolour & tarnish (looks a bit like rust), where'as 316 doesn't. 304 is obviously cheaper.

The test is to use a magnet, it wont "stick" to s/s.

Hope this helps

Regards

Mark

When I bought my Janspeed, there were some blobs of metal on the tailpipes. After a week or so they started to rust. I contacted Janspeed, and they said it was "weld splash", and would polish out. I wasn't too chuffed about removing the crud they left on there in the manufacturing process, but a bit of elbow grease did solve it. Yours sounds a bit more extensive though...

Nice one folks, will look at tomorrow - didn't know about the magnet test, top advice! :):)

Right then, the magnet sticks to nothing apart from this bracing piece and the bolt-together flanges. The similar bracing pieces on the intermediate section smaller silencer seem to be stainless as the magnet doesn't stick to these.

So the Janspeed system isn't exactly 100% stainless. Hmmm.

Could somebody else with a Janspeed system possibly do a magnet check on theirs please? Cheers!

Cheers folks!

Not a major big deal as the apparent non-stainless bit is quite thick and would take many years to corrode away, but I'm curious now having spent lots of ££'s.

I emailed Janspeed today ref this, will let you know their response - if one comes. :):)
