Anyone replaced their thermostat?

Access looks difficult to say the least, I'm wondering if anyone has any tips?

Is it possible without removing all sorts of other bits and bobs first?

Thanks,
Phil.

Hmm....I did mine with the engine out.

I'd guess best bet is to go at it from underneath if you can get the car up.

I did mine, it's a pain in the ass job. you can only reach it decent from under the car. I tokk the ...bobines... away. you have to be sure you put it in correct and you also have to be sure that it's fully closed (with three bolts) because you can't hardly see when you put it back together. and be carefull with de-air the cooling system.

my advice? go to a garage a let the mechanics do their work ;)

what I mean with bobines (I don't think it's a word in english): the things that make the sparks for your sparkplugs
and de-airing is taking the air out of the system ;)

I have had a coolant leak in the past from my thermostat which resulted in needing new bolts and a couple of trips to the garage. All sorted now but not something I would have wanted to try due to positioning of the darned thing.

Finally did it!

Had to go at it from both underneath and above and refitting was actually the harder task, but it's finally done and fingers crossed all seems well - 500 or so miles to brands hatch and back over the weekend with no troubles.

Thanks for the advice guys.
