View Full Version : get rid off rust/ flushed boot

i have got a flushed boot to go on my car, but before i can do that, there was a lot of rust around where the boot bolts to the body of the car, so to day i took of my boot off

here is the rust, dosnt look bad in the pics but it was,
left side this was much worse then the right side for some reason

so i got the drill out with a wire brush on the end and started getting the rust off,

after a bit off work i was back to metal(don't look like it in the pics though)

need to leave that stuff set over night
so tomorrow i will have to put some body filler over it as i had a few small holes due to the rust. then give it a lick of paint then look at fitting my flushed boot, will keep you updated

UPDATE
ok do day all the kurust had turned black as i let it set over night

then i got some body filler out to try and get it all nice and flat

then i put some primer on it then give it a few coats of paint

next thing is tomorrow is to put my number plate on my bumper and wire up some number plate lights, and also mount a solenoid on the in side of the flushed boot and to run all the wireing in and connect it up,
will update to morrow :)
Nice work Dan, its a pain when those hinges rust!
Cant wait to see the finished smoothness.

Mine had to be sorted as well, bloody nightmare.
Smooth boot will look well smart, I know mine does.

my old girl has the dreaded rust mite around the boot hinges to..stopped it for now with loads of grease!!!
